Melvin  Harris was born May 31, 1952. His illness journey began in his late 30s when he was diagnosed with hypertension and congestive heart failure (CHF).  He was later diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, diverticulitis,  and diabetes in his latter 40s. He had a nephrectomy and Left Ventricular Assist Device ( LVAD) in 2010. He received a heart transplant January 23 2010 and after an extensive 14 hour emergency surgery due to his colon being nicked during surgery. He had part of his intestines removed and was placed on a colostomy bag for a year. It was later reversed and he was then placed on dialysis. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2021 in 2022 he became gravely  ill and had to be placed in nursing facility. On January 13 he was admitted to the ICU until his untimely passing on January 19. During his course of illness, Melvin was unable to work and there has been an accumulation of medical bills and now funeral expenses. Melvin had no life insurance and his wife Claudette has been his full time primary care giver and has also been unable to work as a result.
