I just learned of Melvin's passing. Our hearts goes out to the family. We have fond memories of being Melvin and Mary's neighbors in SE Portland, and the many times we were included in their family gatherings. May you find comfort in your memories and your hearts, where lives on.

Melvin, It seems just like yesterday we were together at the Hi Hat restaurant for a late Friday night "early morning" meal-reminiscing about the good ole days!
For instance, our high school bowling league with that zany curve ball of yours! That "hook" of yours really honed in on the pins with great accuracy and then again, sometimes not! That hook ball, always left us laughing.
...or when we were 12 years old and we walked to our local SE Portland neighborhood theatre to see the film premier of "Hush Hush Sweet Charlot". We were both saddled up with our popcorn and candy ready for a great film. However, shortly after the film started - you became so freaked out with the story line, you quickly dashed to theater lobby to wait for the film's end. Instead of watching the movie, we both walked back to our SE Portland homes packed with our popcorn and candy, as we laughed all the way home.
Better yet, after a long Creston school day, we walked to your house after school. Your Mom had just cleaned the sliding glass door. Me, being oblivious to this fact, I attempted to walk through the sliding glass door! Not only was I embarrassed, I also smudged up the glass ,your mom had just cleaned. I recall you and your mom laughing out loud, as your mom muttered something in Chinese!
Those were great days.
RIP my friend - you will be missed!

So sad to hear of Melvins passing. Many memories from Creston grade school. He had a big personality to match the big smile.

From high school to retirement Melvin kept showing up for me at random moments in Portland - with a smile, a story and a heartfelt sense of “some things never change” such as friendship. Deep sympathy to Mary and family.

I will always remember Melvin's kindness. Way back in the H of L days I use to come in and visit with my best friend for lunch while taking classes at PSU, he always made time to stop and chat with us. Melvin was also very kind to my parents driving them to chinese club events. My thoughts and prayers are with all the families.
