Merrill "Mel" Holden, passed away peacefully in Highland Park on Sept. 14 at age 86, surrounded by the family whom he adored and who adored him to the end. A graduate of the University of Illinois, Mel, as he was known affectionately to all, served his country with honor and distinction as a Staff Sergeant stationed in the Philippines during World War II.
