Early on in the pandemic Maurilio and I were in a lot zoom meetings together. Once he realized that he could make me laugh, he turned it into sport. He would wait until I was about to speak and then text me saying something outrageous. I would be laughing so hard I couldn't talk. He just sat there smiling a
very self-satisfied smile. Not many people can do that and still be one of the strongest, warmest, smartest and most compassionate people I've ever encountered. I think of you and I smile and laugh, Maurilio.

I was volunteering at TNDC 41st annual celebration directing guests and you saw me standing by the elevators and told me "Jenny let's go have breakfast/coffee" and you insisted for me to join you, but I couldn't leave my post. It was a pleasure working with you and see you each time we need it your signature. Gracias maurilio que en paz descanse. Mi mas sentido pesame a su familia y amigos.

Maurilio and Rhea are neighbors of ours. Some folks don't have friendships with their neighbors and live next door to each other for quiet some time. I want to thank Maurilio for his kindness. My parents live next door and we grew up to respect our elders. Whenever the ambulance would come to our house and take my father to the hospital. Maurilio would walk down and tell my mother and I if we needed anything, be sure to call him. He gave us his phone number just in case. He always watched out for my parents. Every time I would stop by to do my dads yard work he would say, "The boss has got your working today?" I would reply, "YUP, anything for my father!!"
Rhea my heart goes out to you as I have been in this same situation. Today, 3/14 would have been our 27th anniversary. I can honestly say I know what you're going through and if you ever need a hug, cup of coffee and a chat, I am right next door!!
Thank you for looking out for my parents Maurilio, you are and will be greatly missed!! Rest in peace, walk in beauty in Heaven as you did here on earth.
The Marin Family sends condolences to Rhea, family, friends and colleagues of this wonderful man.

Maurilio was a fabulous colleague and friend!! We first met at a Union Bank Community Advisory Board meeting in San Francisco. He was fetchingly wearing his beret-type beanie and we instantly connected. We both realized we could count on each other to make good trouble and needle the bank to do more in the affordable housing sector. Later, I convinced Maurilio to join the Board of the California Coalition for Rural Housing, where he was a vocal and passionate voice for racial equity at CCRH and in the field. He was always thinking deeply about identity and fairness in his warm and intimate way. When he went to TNDC, he continued on the CCRH board claiming he was working to improve rural parts of the Tenderloin - maybe someone had a chicken. We last texted in December as I was transitioning to semi-retirement and Maurilio was finally leaving the CCRH Board. We agreed to get together for coffee early in the New Year. I will miss him. Maurilio was such a class guy taken way too soon, Rest in peace, mi amigo!!

This is still very hard to believe and I'm heartbroken for his partner and his family. Mi mas sentido pesame para todos. Maurilio is someone that I looked up to since high school and although I didn't keep in touch; I followed his path on linkedin. We lost a true warrior for equity and for the community. May he rest in power

My sincere condolences to Rhea and the Leon family. I was so heartbroken to learn of his passing and in complete disbelief. I will remember him for his kindness, humility, and commitment to improving all communities. I always enjoyed hanging out with him - golfing, drinking beers, baseball games, hiking... I am proud of what he accomplished, but he always tried to downplay his accomplishments and successes and shifted the focus to other's successes. l appreciate all the love and recognition people he touched are sharing so that his family and all of us will recognize his impact and legacy. I will miss him deeply.

Maurilio was a trusted and hard-working member of our CHOC family for many years. We will sadly miss his leadership and advocacy in housing and community development.

So incredibly sorry to hear the news. What an incredible soul that has moved on, in this moment. He gave more in a day than most in a lifetime. Condolences to his family as they navigate life with him as an angel.

We went to high school together and had all our classes together senior year. although we lost touch the last few years , I’ll always remember his smile and his laugh - whether it was chiding “Arturo” in Spanish class or joking with my dad, Mauri loved large. He always made time for people and was passionate about what he believed in. Miss you Mauri and my prayers are with your family.

I was [ in shock] when I heard the news of Maurilio's passing. I feel your pain just know that I'm here for you anytime day or night

My sincerest condolences to his family and friends. I worked with Maurilio for a brief period when he worked with the City and County of San Francisco. I appreciated his smile and good nature, as well as his passion for helping people. I lost my son in 2010, and I was so touched to see him at the memorial service; it was completely unexpected but spoke volumes of his character and his heart. May your precious memories of such a special soul get you through the tough days. I will keep him in my prayers as well as his loved ones.

Every interaction with Leon started with a smile and included a laugh. He had a warm spirit and a sincere passion for serving others. I'm sorry for his untimely passing and send prayers to his family and everyone who is so grieved by his loss.

I am very sorry I cannot attend the service as I will be out of town for work. Maurelio and I had known each other for a long time, since his early days with CHOC - we have worked on projects together, served on boards together, and supported each other's endeavors. His work and deeds live on and leave a real legacy for us all.

I worked closely with Maurilio at CHOC almost 10 years ago. I was new to affordable housing and he was so supportive and such a great friend. He always had a smile and a joke at the ready. Though we only had the opportunity to work together for a couple years, we continued to keep in touch connecting over food and drink and checking in on each other’s busy lives. I was so proud and happy for him when he moved to TNDC. I wish I could have followed him. I regret not doing so and having a second chance to work closely with him once again and be back in his orbit. His warmth, kindness and humor will be deeply missed! My sincerest condolences to his family and partner Rhea. ♥️
