Maureen Dockendorf, one of the most influential voices for early learning in British Columbia. Anytime Maureen approached  me to pilot an initiative, I jumped at the opportunity—knowing that with her leadership, we were part of something that would truly change lives. Her unwavering belief in the potential of children, educators, and communities shaped so much of the work we’re proud of today in SD73. More than a mentor, I am lucky to call her a friend, and her impact will be felt for generations to come.
The world has lost a bright light. Her gift was her enthusiasm and her ability to make everyone feel valued. CR4YC (or possibilities) was a special group of educators that she lead with fierce pride. She will be missed.

I’m so sorry for your loss.  I got to know your mom through the early education world, and I enjoyed her so much! She always had a twinkle in her eye and a laugh ready.  I feel so fortunate that I was able to learn from her…she has left an imprint on my professional life and the way I carry out my work as an educator.  Thank you Maureen for your infectious joy, your inspiration, your tireless drive to elevate children and early years education.
Maureen was an absolute treasure and impacted so many ❤️. I will be forever grateful for her gifts. She will be missed dearly.

I am heartbroken to hear that all that wonderful energy and joy is no longer with us.  I remember her once saying

‘There are no problems only solutions’. She embodied that attitude.

We worked on early literacy matters back in the early 2000s. I always hoped our paths would cross again. In fact I cycled through her village last September and asked about her. I think neighbours said she was away. Now it’s too late

Sending out good thoughts to all her family

I was greatly impacted by Maureen as an elementary educator trying to navigate the complex world of early childhood.  Maureen would share her ideas but also had the uncanny ability to make you heard even if you had no idea what you were doing.  Her booming voice and yes those hugs told you that it’s ok not to know everything but just try to be better as kids need our best.  The world of education will miss her as she was a master educator and dedicated leader.  Sending love to the family.
Maureen was a gifted educator and such a loving person. We will all miss her smile, her laugh and her compassion.

Momo's world was her family and friends. Our hearts are shattered but so very thankful to have had her in our lives. I will dearly miss my high school buddy, especially her laughter, encouragement and unwavering love.  The Donno  ox

I’m deeply saddened by Maureen’s passing . It is such a profound loss to the entire educational community.

Maureen’s career was a testament to her exceptional leadership. I remember her presentations as principal and assistant superintendent, Maureen excelled at shaping entire schools, districts, and the province.

Those who knew Maureen understand that she possessed that rare quality of filling every room she entered with her presence. Her combination of sharp intellect, zest for life, and genuine warmth created an energy that was both inspiring and, admittedly, a little enviable. She had that special gift of making others want to be better versions of themselves simply by being in her orbit.

Maureen so deserved to enjoy decades of a full retirement. She earned it! While we cannot understand why someone so vital was taken before her time, we can honour her by remembering the countless lives she touched and the positive changes she created throughout her remarkable career.

Her legacy lives on in every student she taught, every teacher she mentored, every school she led, and every community she supported. Maureen’s impact was immeasurable, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

My thoughts are with her family, who were generous to share Maureen with the rest of us. Rest in peace, Maureen.

For the past four years Maureen has been a mentor, a friend, and an inspiration. Whenever I had something exciting to share, she would celebrate my success. If I was facing a challenge/barrier, she would send me a zoom link and listen to my woes, pick me up and dust me off, and tell me I could do anything.  Always saying goodbye with love and blowing kisses! Maureen's impact on so many people is like a pebble (or a boulder with her energy!) dropped into a pond that creates ripples radiating out from her splash. I will forever cherish her ripples of love, joy, and gratitude.
Maureen was a joyful force. She made anything seem possible and truly made a difference for education in BC, especially early childhood education. I will always remember her passion, energy, and support. What a wonderful soul who remains in our hearts always.

Maureen and I first crossed paths when the Primary Team and I were flying to New Orleans for a conference where I think we were presenting . My recollection is her dynamic personality was in full force as she was trying to deal with her pantyhose having a huge laddered run  that concerned her as she had forgotten to pack extra pair. I don’t know how it was resolved but she kept a group of us well entertained with herself as the butt of the joke for the entire  plane trip.

Another time I can remember Oscar Bedard introducing Marlene Dergousoff  and Maureen Dockendorff and myself. At one time my name  was Marion Heuckendorff so we all chuckled  at the idea of him tripping over these similar but different names.

What has been said about Maureen is echoed by all who knew her even briefly. A beautiful, dynamic amazing person who gave her all to children and those for whom she cared. She was loved and will be missed!

Maureen was an absolute legend in education. My heart is broken.  such a loss for your family and the province. She has left an incredible legacy 💜
