After months of research and more months waiting for delivery, Mattie picking up his brand new voodoo blue Toyota Tacoma. He was so excited! Now he had a ‘rig’ for the mountains!

Matt was a really kind soul. Incredibly supportive and an infectious laugh. Gutted to hear of his passing. I remember he had a unique inquisitive sense of humour. He loved the idea of saying “who is this clown?” Because not only are you calling them a clown, but a lesser known clown. Matt always had an ability to make people laugh at their most stressed. He also had great taste in music. We played hockey together at university and he was very fun to have in the locker room. His memory will live on in the people he touched.

Brother’s trip to the Burgess Shale — with Alexander Jobin and Malakai (Kai) Jobin
Mat and I used to walk to school together when he was in high school and I was in junior high. Anyone who knew us when we were that age probably remembers that we used to argue all the time - typical siblings! No matter how much we fought on that walk, when we got home I would boot up the computer and he would get us a snack. We would take turns playing Minecraft and whoever wasn’t playing sat and watched the other play. No fight (well… barely any!) lasted past the doorway to our house.

2017, Crater Lake, Oregon, USA
On one of 3 consecutive trips we took across the Western United States after High School, we stopped at Crater Lake, Oregon in 2017. We camped the entire time on each trip, eating what we could to minimize the cost of the trip given we were all in University at the time, and took turns driving Mat's Buick sedan to get us to the next destination. — with Mat Jobin, Stu Merrett, Pierce Guse and Christian Roatis
