Mary Jean was such a wonderful, kind human! She loved you girls. I wish I could be there to celebrate her, but I am with my son on the west coast. Peace and comfort, Rene’

I remember Macy as a spirited little girl growing up in Mount Holly, NC in the First Baptist Church. With ever present skinned knees and constant movement. She looked so delicate but was tough as nails. I remember her freckly face, red hair and little pixy nose. She was the baby but created her own unique identity which set her apart from others. I loved her from the first time I met her.
I graduated from high school with her sister, Marilyn, who, to this day, remains a dear friend. I was proud to participate in the Lark Warriors effort to support her medical treatments a number of years back. Her courage was infectious. I am so grateful to have known and loved Macy. She made a difference in my life.❤️

Well written obituary for Mary Jean the Coastal Queen as my mother dubbed her when visiting you, Betsy, and your mom with me back in her Wilmington days. I will always appreciate her keeping a caring eye on Betsy while she was at Cape Fear and sharing her home there. I remember a wonderful lunch of a panini and cake when she was still in Mooresville. I greatly admired her spunk. I know she was a great Mom because Arielle was a great friend to my Betsy and always respectful and kind to our family. May Mary Jean’s memory inspire all who knew her to be as full of spirit and courage when we fight our own battles!
