Martin's obituary
Martin Gerard Gaccione, 65, born and raised in Westerly, RI, residing in Naples FL since 2007, passed away in the comforts of his own home from natural causes on April 27, 2023.
“Marty” was never one for formality or appearances, or concerned about a defined legacy. I doubt there is anything particular he would want you, the reader of this, to know, if it is not already known. He was an honest man. Kind. Funny. Excellent wit. A larger than life figure. Straightforward. Loyal. Instilled what I would like to think are excellent values into his children. Loved his wife. God, did he love her. The pride of his life. And his grandchildren? Forget about it. Move over mom, you couldn’t pry them away from him. But what he’ll be remembered for most, is just the way he treated everyone with respect and like they were a member of the family. Good luck if you are a landscaper not leaving the house without a bottle of water, granola bar, or an ice cold beer. Don’t tell our HOA. And good luck to any of Vic, Tim, or Marty’s friends not feeling like they were instantly part of the family upon meeting him. It is rare for him to have an acquaintance who wouldn’t identify him as a friend. Just an all around good natured, solid guy, who gave more than he took, and who will be missed by many. Thank you to everyone who has been a friend and supporter of his along the way.
And now to the formalities. Marty was born on June 13th, 1957 to Vincent and Rita Gaccione on Watch Hill Road in Westerly Rhode Island, where he would live in and around for the next 50 years. For clarification's sake, I’m sure he was actually born at a hospital, perhaps Westerly Hospital for that matter, but that’s besides the point. He grew up as the 4th of 6 children in a house his dad built leading out to the Atlantic Ocean, with his bare hands, or at least that’s what I’m told. If he didn’t, we don’t want to know the truth. He met many of his lifelong friends shortly afterwards at St Pius Elementary and Middle school and then Westerly High school, and upon graduating ultimately started a career with Volvo, a brand he took immense pride in working for over the years. If you needed a Volvo and lived in Rhode Island or Southeast Connecticut, Marty was your guy. In 1986, he would meet the love of his life, Renee Castagna, who just seemingly couldn’t resist his boyish charm and devilishly good looks. Who could blame her? They got engaged within 3 weeks and married later that year. Marty will be departing his human existence sadly leaving behind Renee, as well as his three children, Marty Jr, Timothy, and Victoria, along with her husband Caleb Warner and two grandchildren, Rylan and Liam. He also will be remembered fondly by his surviving sisters Kathy, Rita, GiGi, and Maureen, as well as older brother Vincent. He is predeceased by his parents, Vincent and Rita Gaccione. There are innumerable nieces, nephews, cousins, brother and sister in-laws, close friends and fierce confidants he touched along the way, that all deserve a paragraph of their own and assuredly would pain him not to see listed here, but unfortunately cannot include for the sake of brevity.
Thank you all so much for your condolences thus far. Our family has enjoyed reading all of the cherished memories you have had of our father. We take great comfort in hearing how he has touched all of your lives, just as he has touched ours.
Rest in Peace Marty, Nutzie, Pappy-Man, son, brother, dad, cousin, uncle, godfather, and ultimately friend.
Rest in Peace
