Aggie and family,  So very sorry to hear of your loss.  May family, friends and fond memories sustain you in this difficult.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I lived across the street from Marty and family.  I have some beautiful memories of my own.

If you've ever snow skied before, you may have heard of Marty, the snow-skiing "rebel" of Dodge Ridge.  Marty was brave!  Once or twice he would blaze down "the face", and you would think, "that guy's gonna end up on a stretcher"...but you would be surprised.  You see, Marty came straight down!  You could only say, "Amazing!  Purely amazing!"

I never heard of his falling...neither did anyone else.  His grace and tenacity were something to behold!  Once you saw him race down the mountain, you would say, "Marty is a one-of-a-kind special brother"  ... and Jesus would agree.

Love you, dear brother in Christ,

Paul

I met Marty through Duane and Sue Swanson.  Our girls were in gymnastics back in the '90s.  Duane invited me for the annual “bring a friend a day” at Dodge Ridge to ski  and that is when I first met Marty.  Bear Valley had an “employee day,”  so I invited Duane and Marty.  The joke was that I'd put them on my payroll for one day a year.  The first year they came over, I BBQed up some hamburgers, the second year I invited a couple of friends when they came over and we BBQed again — tail gate style.  It was a hit and ever since, it's become an annual tradition — thanks to those guys.  I went to Dodge and they came my way to Bear for many years after that.

Marty and I drove over 100,000 miles, exploring different ski resorts in the US and Canada.   At last count, we made it to over 80 different resorts.   Marty was always on the hunt for the best deal — and we found them — whether mom and pop ski resorts, motels, or food.  We split most things, and sometimes, it was to the penny, but no matter what, Marty was a fun travel companion and always fair.

One of our most memorable ski days was at Powder Mountain on a bluebird Sunday with 24 inches of perfect, fresh cold snow. We had four other friends there and we  hired a guide named Phil and had a wonderful day.

Marty was the most addicted skier that I have known to date — and now, I hope to carry that torch.

Such good memories…

We are so sorry, our hearts are broken for you. Know that we are thinking of you and keeping you in our thoughts and prayers always.

My heart goes out to you & the girls.  I know it’s been tough for you for awhile. Marty is at peace now & I hope you can find some peace as well. Please take care of yourself, Aunt Aggie. I love you ❤️
