Mark's obituary
Mark was born on January 5, 1975, in Downey, California, to Michael and Suzanne De la Vega. He grew up the youngest of three brothers, raised alongside John and Paul in a home full of life and family bonds that would shape him for the rest of his days. From an early age, Mark had a restless creativity — a love of making things with his hands and a deep connection to the world around him.
That creativity found its fullest expression in his work as a union carpenter, a trade he pursued with pride and precision. He was the kind of craftsman who understood that building something well is a form of care, for the people who would live and work within those walls, and for the community that holds them. His dedication to his union reflected the same values: solidarity, honest labor, and showing up for one another.
Beyond the jobsite, Mark's spirit ranged widely. He was an avid skateboarder whose love for the sport never dimmed with age ,it was a thread of youthful joy woven through his whole life. He had a genuine passion for art, an eye for beauty in unexpected places, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors, where he found both peace and perspective. He gave generously of his time to community service as well, believing that a neighborhood is only as strong as the people willing to tend it.
Above all else, Mark counted fatherhood among his most cherished accomplishments. He poured into his son with intention and love, delighting in every moment of watching Christian grow, evolve, and surpass what Mark had ever imagined possible. To see his son reach beyond his own limitations was, for Mark, one of life's greatest joys and deepest satisfactions. The pride he carried for Christian was quiet but immense, the kind that doesn't need an audience ,it simply radiates.
In 2021, Mark married Cynthia De la Vega, the partner who had walked beside him for sixteen years. Theirs was a love built on time, on knowing each other fully, and on choosing each other still. Together they made a life that was rich in meaning, laughter, and belonging.
