Background

On April 19th, 2026, we lost Mark De la Vega ; a carpenter, a skateboarder, a surfer, a traveler, a son, and above all, a devoted husband and father. He was 51 years old, full of plans, full of life , and full of light.

Mark spent his life building things with his hands and his heart. As a union carpenter working toward his journeyman certification, he believed in showing up, doing the work, and doing it right. He recently celebrated his 50th birthday in Spain , soaking in the sun, the culture, and the kind of joy that comes from truly living. That was Mark. He didn't wait for life to happen. He went after it ; on the waves, on the board, in the wood shop, on the road.

He is survived by his wife of five years and partner of sixteen, Cynthia De la Vega; his son, Christian De la Vega; and his mother, Suzanne De la Vega.

Why we're here:

Mark always poured into the people he loved. Now, in his memory, we're asking his community to pour into them too. This fund exists to carry his legacy forward — through the people he left behind, whose dreams he believed in deeply.

Proceeds from this fund will go toward two things Mark would have championed without question:

• Christian's college education. Mark raised a young man with ambition and heart. Helping Christian get to college is one of the most direct ways we can honor what Mark was building.

• Cynthia's LCSW licensure. Cynthia is a new graduate stepping into the professional world while simultaneously navigating the greatest loss of her life. She is on the path to becoming a licensed clinical social worker, someone who will spend her career helping others carry their pain. She needs our support to complete that journey.

Mark's light didn't go out on April 19th. It lives in Christian's laughter, in Cynthia's determination, in every wave that breaks clean on a good day, in every piece of wood shaped by steady hands. Grief is real, and we aren't asked to minimize it , but we are asked, in moments like this, to turn toward each other. To show up. To pour in.

If Mark taught us anything, it was that you build something worth standing on, and then you help somebody else stand on it too.

Please give what you can. Share widely. And keep his light alive.
