Mariellen's obituary

Mariellen S. Morris, 89, of Brunswick, Georgia, peacefully departed this life and entered into Heaven’s Gates to once again join the love of her life, her late husband, Richard B. Morris, Jr. Mariellen was born in Tallapoosa, Georgia, the daughter of the late William O. Strickland and the late Elizabeth A. Strickland.

Mariellen graduated from Hampton High School and obtained her Associate Degree from West Georgia College. Then, she earned her Bachelor’s and her Master’s Degrees from the University of Georgia. She continued her education at Georgia Southern University, where she received her Educational Specialist Degree. For several years, she was home demonstration agent for the extension service, and then she had a very successful career forming the minds of young children as a teacher at numerous elementary schools and also as an Assistant Principal at Risley Middle School. Then she was honored to be the first Principal at Glyndale Elementary School. Her love for children was the driving force behind her career as an educator.

Mariellen had resided in Glynn County since 1955 and was a member of The First Presbyterian Church in Brunswick. She was also a member of her church’s circles, Emmaus, Delta Kappa Gamma, and the Georgia Retired Teachers Association. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling, especially with friends, during her retirement years. Most of all, she was a true Southern lady who loved her family. She always enjoyed hosting family and other social gatherings. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Mariellen was loved by everyone who knew her and will be missed by all.

Left to cherish her through many memories are her sons and daughters-in-law, William R. Morris and his wife Eureka and Robert J. Morris and his wife Sara; two granddaughters, Natalee M. Cross (James) and Beth Morris; two great grandchildren, Kailand and London Cross; and her sister, Betty Jo Strickland.

The family will receive friends between 10 – 11:00 am Friday, October 14, 2022 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. The Funeral will be held at 11:00 following the visitation in The Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim McIlrath officiating. The entombment will follow the service at the Mausoleum in Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens on Saint Simons Island.
