Marian's obituary
Marian Ethel (Norton) Houk passed away peacefully at age 86 in her sleep on the morning of December 17, 2023, at her home in Largo, Florida.
Marian, or GG as her great-grandchildren called her was born in Albion Michigan to Donald Jewel Norton and Wilma Arlene (Hewitt) Norton on January 9, 1937. She is survived by a brother John Custer, her eldest daughter Kristie Jett, her son Stace Houk, and four grandsons and three great-grandchildren. Marian was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, a sister and her daughter Lorrie Parsons who passed 3 days before her.
People who knew Marian will remember her smile and her amazing ability to chat away and make those around her feel welcome and a part of her family. Her many "adopted" children are one example. Her life contained many struggles as she endured her parents' divorce as a youth and then managed to overcome the results of her divorce and raise three children as a single mother. Marian was always working and sometimes multiple jobs almost her entire life. Late in life Marian was able to achieve the goals of getting her GED in her sixties and went on to obtain a beautician's license, a job she loved and worked at even in her retirement years, along with alterations as she was an excellent seamstress as well. She loved to dance, listen to live blues music, football, and the company of her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
We are all happy for our chance to be a part of her story and grateful that she got to live such a full life and was so loved. You will be missed by so many. We love you Mama, Grammy and GG.
