Marc's obituary

A loving father, husband, son and brother, Marc Guilbault lived a life filled with love and a positive, fun spirit. Marc passed away peacefully on April 18, 2022 at the age of 60 after a courageous two-year battle with cancer, surrounded by his loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living life to the fullest. Marc had a deep and unwavering faith, and it makes us happy that he received Last Rites and began his journey to a new life with Christ and his departed loved ones on Easter Sunday.

Marc is survived by his wife, Michelle; his three daughters, Nicole, Victoria, and Monique; his mother and stepfather, Louise and David Koenig; his father-in-law, Witold Brick; his brother and sister, Paul and Michele Guilbault; and many extended family members and friends who so loved him.

Marc was born in Philadelphia on March 14, 1962 to Louise and RADM Roland Guilbault. Marc grew up as a ‘Navy brat,’ moving many times to different naval bases all over the country and attending 17 different schools before graduating high school. During this time Marc learned the value of being outgoing and making friends fast, as he and his siblings would only be in one place for a short time. He enjoyed striking up conversations with everyone he met, and his distinctive laugh was infectious and could easily light up a room. Marc enjoyed the traditions of Navy life, such as the joyous occasions of ships coming back into port filled with Naval officers returning home after being gone from their families for six months.

Marc’s favorite place in his youth was the Jacksonville, Florida Naval Base, where his backyard was the ocean for four idyllic years. He participated in and won many surfing competitions, and also enjoyed skateboarding, tennis, skipping stones and climbing trees. Lighthearted, but mischievous, Marc loved to play innocent pranks on his friends and siblings. Marc was passionate about aviation and physics; he learned to fly a glider and had many drones. We delight in the fact that his youngest daughter, Monique, is currently studying to be a pilot at Jacksonville University, right in the same town that her Dad so dearly loved.

Marc attended George Mason University and diligently put himself through college, earning his degree in Computer and Electrical Engineering. Intelligent and sharp minded, Marc worked for Touch Communications, Retix, Bay/Nortel Networks, and later Cisco Systems. He thrived on solving highly technical data networking problems under great pressure. He was technically brilliant and had a gift for explaining complex system issues and potential resolutions in layman’s terms to upper-level company executives. He later used his technical abilities to give back to his community, volunteering his time and skills to rebuild old computers, which were donated to families in need for the Tin Cup Fund organization - https://www.thetincupfund.org. His generosity touched the lives of many families and children whose lives were changed by the resources he helped provide. Marc was generous with his time and always willing to drop what he was doing to help a friend or family member. He founded and led Lowes Island Cascades Neighborhood Watch, a popular and frequently passionate Facebook group with 6,500 members, and is beloved by his community.

Marc had a curious mind and an uncanny ability to find happiness and humor in daily activities. He placed great value on a good joke and loved to laugh, especially at himself. Despite health problems and regardless of any difficult situation, he had a strong desire to participate and to be present with his family, especially at important events. Marc never missed an opportunity to support his girls at a gymnastics meet, cheer or dance competition, football game, voice or dance recital, tennis match, track meet or graduation… even if that meant flying across the country to attend when he wasn’t feeling his best. He was his wife’s savvy photography assistant, travel franchise partner, technical support guy, and problem solver. The Guilbault family was blessed by United flight benefits. We traveled the world together to: Hawaii, Italy, France, The Netherlands, Poland, China, Australia, New Zealand, California, Florida, many National Parks of the Southwest, and will hold those once-in-a-lifetime memories of unforgettable trips close to our hearts!

Marc was an optimistic man, and that optimism guided his children and made each of them believe that anything was possible. Marc will be missed deeply, and his memory will live on in the hearts of family and friends.

Please join us in celebrating Marc’s life. A service will be held on May 5th at Christ the Redeemer Catholic church in Sterling, starting at 10:30 a.m. for visitation, followed by eulogies at 11 a.m., Mass at 12 noon and a reception at Stone House from 1:15 pm - 6:15 pm.
