Marc's obituary

Marc Henry Brookens of Springfield MA, peacefully passed away unexpectedly on January 27, 2022 at the age of 70 years old.

Born in Springfield MA to his parents Florence V. Postell and Joseph S. Brookens, Marc was fiercely passionate about sports from an early age and dedicated his life to his
family as well as his pursuit of basketball excellence as a player and IAABO board certified basketball referee for over 30 years. Marc served as IAABO 31 president from 2007-2009. He was presented the Robert D'agostino Award for excellence as judged by his IAABO Board 31 peers. Marc was a high graduate of Springfield Trade School where he was presented the Dagenais award for high school football in 1968. Marc also officiated for h.s. boys & girls basketball during the school year. He ran Jack Troy h.s. summer basketball league and Larry O'Brien adult men basketball league. Marc was a "jack of all trades" he worked as a pole lineman for a local telephone company, he worked at Powersystems as a foreman, and at Harvey Industries making windows. He retired from ACM Inc, where he was a warehouse worker and forklift driver. He was everyone's Mr fix it.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 20 years Bernadine (Miller) Brookens of Springfield, MA.

Aunts: Mrs. Emma Bailey of Birmingham, AL, Mrs Helen Spence of Washington, DC, Mrs, Alma Murray of Springfield, MA and his Uncle and Aunt Mr and Mrs Joseph E. Postell of Springfield, MA.

Marc was predeceased by both parents; FATHER: Joseph S. Brookens, Jr. - Cairo, GA; MOTHER: Florence V. Postell - Cambridge, MA .

Marc was also predeceased by his twin brother, Michael Harlan Brookens, in 1961, his older brother, SMSgt Joseph S. (Jean) Brookens III in 2018, and his daughter Kelly Brookens in 1998.

SIBLINGS: Dr. Florence O. Eatman of So. Orange New Jersey, Mrs. Tina (Alfred) "Winnie" Johnson of Ridgeland, MS, Karen L. Ward of Augusta, GA and a sister in-law, Mrs. Jean Brookens of San Antonio, TX.

He leaves his children: Nicole Brookens, Marc H. Brookens Jr., Keisha Hardin, Kimberly Brookens, Hershel Owens, and a stepson John Marcus Finch.

He leaves brother in laws: Rev. Alfred L. Johnson Sr., and Mr. Bryan E. Miller

Marc leaves a host of nieces, nephews, grand children, great grands, and many friends to cherish his memory.
