I don’t know where to start.  I simply loved Dee Dee.  She cast rays of sunshine in every single room she entered.  We were coworkers at Douglass Elementary and became friends.  She shared her early  breast cancer journey with me (my mom was dealing with it at the time).   Her faith never wavered, but you could see the pain in her eyes when she talked about her sweet girls and Wayne. She so wanted to share the future with them.   Dee Dee never complained!  She made jokes, pranked us, offered advice, and often consoled us.  Her dedication to others was astounding.   Every one of us benefited from knowing and loving this amazing woman.   Thank you for doing this Emily!  It’s very much something she would do.
When I think of Dee Dee, my mind immediately goes to her driving me and Sarah around in her white van.  I remember Dee Dee being one of the kindest, most genuine and loving person I had ever met. And I see those same qualities being carried on through her daughters. Though I did not get to spend many years knowing Dee Dee, I am thankful for the time I did got to spend with her and her always treating me as if I was her own. She also gave me the greatest gift of my best friend Sarah and I am forever thankful to her for that. There is not a time in my life that I can remember not knowing Sarah and Emily. I am grateful to still have them both in my life and be able to witness the wonderful women they have grown to be. I know Dee Dee would be just as proud as I am.

I had just shared one of my favorite stories with Emily and Sarah a few weeks ago of the day I went to pick up my son, Jesse from an afternoon visit with Sarah.  When I drove up,  Dee and all three Sarah, Emily and Jesse were dancing in the living room like no one was watching. It was a funny sight. I soon found out they had just watched the movie Shrek and were having their own “dance party”. That is just one example of the fun loving, care-free spirit that Dee had. She thrived on putting smiles on faces, especially children.

I have loved hearing these memories from everyone especially the sister stories from Josie and Sue. One Thanksgiving I was invited to go Black Friday shopping with Dee and Sue. That day I truly felt a part of their sisterhood.  We had many other great times together camping and other activities with our families. Truly miss those days.

Sending love and big hugs to you all.

As the “baby” of the family, Dee was always there to take care of me. Our mom loved dressing the three of us like triplets so in almost all our school pictures, we have the same outfit on!

Dee helped me through my latest boy troubles in high school and guided me through many bad decisions. Since she was 2 years ahead of me in high school, it was always comforting to know that she was there if I needed anything navigating the trials and tribulations of MHS.

Of course, we didn’t always get along and mostly argued about makeup, hair styles, and clothes. Lord, the clothes fights we had!

She was so happy and proud when she became a mom and she and Wayne would do anything and everything for Em and Sarah. Christmas morning at their house was CRAZY!

I miss her every single day, especially now that I’ve moved back to Eden. Her voice echoes in my mind when I walk around down here, thinking about our wonderful childhood trooping through these woods. But I see her live on in Emily, Emmett, and Sarah. Thank you both for getting this together to celebrate her life.

Josie

I’m not sure if the year is correct. But when I think of your mom, I think of how she took me to school for a short time in elementary school (or was it preschool?! - forgive me it’s hard to remember specifics) but she was always kind and welcoming to me. I loved your house and I loved playing in the basement with you guys. I know your mom was a beautiful person. When I think of her, I think of her standing in the screen door, opening it to let me in. She always had a smile and a hug for me. She made me feel safe when my mom left me there  & I’m thankful to have known her!

I hope you all are doing well, you have a beautiful family and I know your mom is smiling down on her girls.
