Lorie's obituary

*In Loving Memory of Lorena Marie Wilcox*

Lorie, born in sunny Long Beach, CA, on March 23, 1955, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, adventure, and a life well-lived. She is survived by her two devoted sons, Brandon and RJ, and a large community of friends and extended family whose lives she touched in countless ways.

Lorie's heart was a home for everyone. From running her own daycare in the early years with her boys to her years thereafter in the baby room at MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers), her greatest joy always was caring for others. She was a master of soothing cries and building connections that stood the test of time.

When she wasn’t helping others, Lorie was always planning her next trip. She had an unmatched wanderlust, always ready for that next cruise, a plane ride, or a spontaneous adventure with any one of her many cherished friends across the country. Her stories—often accompanied by her signature glass of House Chardonnay—were as vivid as the places she visited.

Lorie's spirit lives on through all of us, in the laughter of children, the warmth of good conversation, and all of the love she so freely gave to everyone she encountered.

In her memory, we leave you with these words, a gentle reminder that her presence will always surround us:

"Do not stand at my grave and weep,

I am not there; I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow,

I am the diamond glints on snow,

I am the sunlight on ripened grain,

I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the morning's hush,

I am the swift uplifting rush

Of quiet birds in circled flight.

I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry,

I am not there; I did not die."

Rest easy, Mom. You were truly one of a kind.
