I did volunteer work at Catnip many years ago. I thought a lot of Lori. I am so sad to hear of her passing.

To the family of a beautiful woman. Lori was truly loved and will be missed by all that she touched.
Randy, thank you for sharing such intimate memories, reading it made me cry a little and laugh a little. Truly a snippet of the person she was and reminder of the things that are important in life.
I am sending my deepest condolences and prayers to the entire family.
Love.

I still don’t want to believe Lori is gone. The trust that I had in her to make the right decisions for my fur babies cannot be replaced. Our animals can’t tell us what’s wrong, but Doc always knew. Yesterday I received a condolence card from her and her wonderful staff for my Max. So glad she was still here to help me through his passing. Such a huge hole in our community from this loss of her smile, her guidance, her dedication to help do many in so many ways. Thank you Lori for all you did for our family and all you have done for our community. God give you rest.

I wish Randy and all the family at the Vet family 🙏 praying for you 🙏

My daughter shared this with me, her pets were patients. Lori sounds like a wonderful person who will be missed. My condolences to you, your family and friends.

I have many memories of Lori on her trips to Nicaragua to serve alongside her fellow Rotarians to do electrical installations and train young people in rural schools. But the memory that sticks with me was watching young girls watch her, with her tool belt on, shoulder-to-shoulder with the male electricians doing a job that these girls had no idea a woman could do. She oozed competence and authority while also being warm and kind, and I saw that spark ignite in the eyes of the girls she taught. We live on through the people whose lives we touch- Lori lives in the lives of countless young people in Nicaragua, and mine too.

I've only been a Mule Town pet parent not quite 2 years now. Sassy and I have seen her about 4 times and she was wonderful to us. I am so sorry for your loss. Creedmoor will miss her tremendously.

I was so sorry to hear about Lori's passing. She was such a huge part of our small town community. She was an amazing person and I admire her volunteer work and time given to granville County.

Randy and family, we were saddened to hear about Lori passing. We will always remember her kindness and generous heart. She shared eggs with us and she treated our 2 Labs as though they belong to her. If there's anything we can do, please don't hesitate to let us know.
Your neighbors,
Eugene and Sarah Williams

Dr. Scappino was the first vet that took the time to learn my animals. She was kind, patient and caring! She always went above and beyond to ease my mind with any questions or concerns I may of had. Without her we would not be celebrating Valhalla 1 year birthday today.
We send our love and condolences to her family!

You had such a kind way with our dogs, Ripley and Newt, and we honestly enjoyed meeting you - learning about your hobby farm, and your dreams for the building behind Muletown Vet building.
We were planning to bring them in for shots and two other issues, but were saddened to learn about your news. You were the first vet that Newt didn't fear.
We will still be a Muletown Vet family, as your vet and reception staff is also excellent - another impact of your professionalism and kindness to others.
We grieve with you, your family, and Muletown families at this time. Newt and Ripley feel the same.
Safe journeys and may you be in a heaven with all animals that go there by default.

I'm so sorry for the loss of Lori. I'll always think of her on Thanksgiving mornings when I would bring my family over to the farm. I also will never forget bumping into her at a beer festival in Raleigh and spending the entire time with her drinking many great beers together. She was a great person and vet to my many pets. My condolences to her family - she will be missed dearly. Brian Mehlman

This loss hits so hard. If anyone was taken too soon it was Lori. I didn't know Lori very well personally but every time I was around her, I thought how much fun it would be to be her close friend. I met Lori while she was in vet school and she somehow found the time to be the volunteer coordinator for Operation Catnip. What first struck me was her smile, her positivity, confidence, and that wonderful laugh. After earning her DVM, she continued to be a regular surgeon with Operation Catnip and she was so skilled and empathetic. I could come to her with any question and she always helped with grace and attention. Eventually when she opened her own practice she didn't have as much time to volunteer at OC clinics, but she continued to make a huge impact by accepting OC spay/neuter vouchers at Mule Town. Doing surgeries through a voucher program is a huge sacrifice of resources, but one she gladly accepted. She even offered to sterilize any overflow cats if our clinic was too full. She was just so amazing and we will all miss her so much. Thank you to all those who are contributing to enable her legacy to continue. -Linda Chadwick, RVT, Operation Catnip Raleigh Clinic Supervisor and Volunteer Coordinator

I am still processing her passing, I just cannot believe that someone who was filled with so MUCH LOVE for LIFE is gone. She was one of my closest friends, we went through a lot together (the 6 times she applied to Vet school, and the sorrow with each rejection. Thank the lord she finally got in, she was a damn good vet.) She was with me when I got into my first and only bar fight, on the first night that myself, Lori, Randy, and Joe went out. I was amazed that she would ever go out with me again. And then there was the Thanksgiving event with drinks, great food (made by herself and others, but mostly her) that would be there when we had had enough of the shooting, ALL the guns! I was briefly the champion at skeet (that was a great feeling, especially when I beat the police officer at a skeet challenge, and Joe)!!! She taught me so much in the lab and was with me through my PhD and beyond. I loved her and her family dearly. I loved her cooking, company, and that LAUGH!! You could walk into a dimly lit bar where you could not see her - and then you would hear the infamous and joyful laugh, and you knew where Lori was - I will never forget that laugh. It was the embodiment of the LOVE that Lori showed to the world. She will be greatly missed. My heart goes out to Randy, Amy, Mario (Uchi? I cannot remember the nickname), and the rest of her family, who I am sure are devastated. But, I hope they feel as lucky as I do to have known her. I will post photos when I have the chance. It has been a very heavy week.

I was devastated when I heard the news of Lori's passing. She was such a kind and caring person in all she did. She took care of my dogs for many years and she is irreplaceable. There is hole in my heart and and in the community that will never be filled. We must continue to do good things like her and love each day to the fullest. 😪❤️
