Lisa's obituary
After a difficult battle with ovarian cancer, Lisa Sweeney passed away peacefully on May 10, 2025 surrounded by her husband, daughters, brother, sister-in-law, and best friend in her own home.
My mom was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Joan & John Thomas. She was bubbly and effervescent even at a young age, and fostered friendships wherever she went. She was a natural-born caregiver and always said that her dreams were to be a mom, and to be a teacher. She achieved both, and did so with such grace, humor, love, and kindness. She met our dad, Robert Sweeney, in Dallas in 1988. They were married for 35 years. She was a dedicated, loyal, and strong partner and mother. My sister and I never doubted she'd do absolutely anything for us. I can confidently say she was the glue that brought so many of us together time and again. Her students always adored her, and she'll be remembered as the absolute best early childhood educator by so many parents, children, administrators, and co-teachers.
When I think of her, I will think of laughter, joy, dancing, dedication, warm hugs, sunny beach days, wind chimes, blooming flowers, and holiday decorations (if you know, you know!). She never forgot a thank you note, and could always be counted on in your time of need. The loss of my beautiful mother will be a hole impossible to fill, but I am so thankful for the lifetime of memories we do have together.
Lisa was predeceased by her mother and father, Joan and John Thomas. She leaves behind her devoted husband, Robert, her daughters, Sarah-Grace & Olivia, her brother, Mark, her siblings-in-law, Noel, Jane, Kelly, and Michael as well as her niece and nephew, Catherine and Hayden. Services will be held at Christ Church Downtown in Tyler, Texas on May 19, 2025 at 2pm, followed by a reception in the Parish Hall and drinks & snacks at Don Juan on the Square. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to either Houston Hospice or the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance.
