Lisa Shannon of Williamstown, MA passed away peacefully in her sleep after a battle with Lewy Body Dementia, on August 22nd. Lisa was born in Queens, NY in 1945 and grew up in Hempstead, NY. She was the daughter of Philip and Gwendolyn Horwitz. Lisa graduated from Vassar College, Brooklyn Law School, and Bank Street College of Education. She pursued her passion for children by teaching elementary school for over 40 years in New York City and Williamstown, MA. Lisa, her husband Brian, and their children lived in Great Barrington before moving to Williamstown. Lisa taught 4th grade at Williamstown Elementary School from 1991 until her retirement in 2014. Lisa was an avid reader, walker, and lover of chocolate, and Purple Cow ice cream from Lickety Split. She could be spotted walking her dog Molly around town. She volunteered as an usher at the Williamstown Theater Festival and supported many causes focusing on social justice and human rights. She will be remembered forever for her infectious laugh, sense of humor, and her dance moves, especially her masterful dance routine to the Bangles hit single "Walk Like an Egyptian." Lisa had boundless energy and loved riding her bike the full 40 mile length of the Cape Cod Rail Trail, of course, stopping for ice cream along the way. Lisa was passionate about her family, friends, dogs, and her students. She is predeceased by her husband Brian and survived by sons Michael and Eric, daughter-in-law Jessica, sister Judy, nephews Eric and Gordon, cousins Marjorie and husband Gerry, David and wife Winne, Mitchell, and Peggy. She will be greatly missed by the many people whose lives she touched and whose spirits she lifted with her compassion and sense of humor.
