Lisa's obituary
Lisa Balistreri, born in the year of 1963, passed away suddenly at home after a long battle with cancer on August 3, 2024. Known for her kind heart and exuberant spirit, Lisa's lasting legacy will be the positivity and kindness she spread wherever she went.
She is survived by her daughter Lydia Balistreri, sister Janine Balistreri and predecessed by her mother, Karen Balistreri last year in July. Lisa's infectious laughter, humor, strong spirit, beautiful singing voice and dedication as a Registered Nurse for over 30 years to everyone she encountered as an Oncology nurse and Education Nurse Specialist at CHOP, will never be forgotten by those she touched. Her deep devotion and unwavering love of her daughter will be dearly missed. She was a wonderful mom, fantastic sister and good daughter. Her memory will live on through those most near to her, forever cherished in their hearts.
Lisa graduated from Alfred University in NY, was a traveling nurse until she settled in Philadelphia as a RN in the Oncology dept. at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. She went on to get her Master degree from Villanova University and became an Education Nurse Specialist for several years until ending her career in the Family Learning Center working with a wonderful team that educates the families in whatever area of treatment the parents need to know in order to able to provide the care their child will require at home. She loved her work and it showed in the children she first took care of, especially the one who she took care of on the floor and then saw hers years later working on that same floor and told Lisa I became a nurse because of you. Truly a tribute to how many people she impacted in her life. From the day she told her Grandma “I help you” as a little girl to the day she took care of her Grandma in the hospital and continued to help her, she was born to help others. We love you Lisa and know you are holding mom’s hand now and looking out for us and we know “we will never walk alone”.
A private family gathering will be held in Upstate New York in the Fall. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Center in Lancaster. A truly amazing facility with a wonderful staff who made you feel like family and supported Lisa and the family through it all.
