Lee and I fished Alaska on and off for close to 25 years. In the last 5 years it was an annual trip. This year I went to Sitka. Lee would have enjoyed the weather ( no rain) and the king fishery. Lee you were missed.

I am so sorry to hear about Lee. He was such a great person, in so many ways. I worked with him nearly 40 years ago at Abbott and so appreciated his wit, intelligence and kindness. We bonded over the challenges we faced and he leant a sympathetic ear. He was also wonderfully honest - some unsolicited feedback he gave me stuck with me for many years.
Although his scientific skills were an inspiration to all around him, it was his kindness over the years when we saw each other at conferences or meetings that is most memorable. I send my sincere condolences to Karen and the rest of his family and may his memory be a blessing.

Sending late (but sincerely felt) condolences to Lee's family. We first met Lee when he and Karen moved in next door to us in Woodside, CA. We were all pretty young and busy with new careers, but got to know each other over the course of 2 years of living so close together. I especially appreciated getting to know Heather as a very young child--we spent lovely time together in the front garden, and we were there when Jon entered the world. Even though we moved down the road and Lee and Karen moved north, Karen and I have stayed in touch--and I have loved all the family photographs that she shared of Lee, the kids, and all the grandkids. He was a lovely person and I know that he will be missed, but some part of him is inside each person that he touched...and that is how we will carry him forward. With love, Misha and Keith

So sorry to hear of Lee’s passing. He always had a smile and a jovial heart. I worked with Lee for 7 years at ICOS. We would battle on the tennis court, share fishing stories, and promise to meet in my homeland on Kauai. He would always call me whenever he was on Kauai, and I knew he loved it there. My condolences to his family. I’m sure he will be missed.

Dear Lee, It is hard to believe that you are no more with us, heartfelt condolences. Being a co-worker I like to share a few memorable talents of yours that I always remember. Though we worked from two different places, I never felt that we are thousands of miles away as you instantly responded to all messages on MS Teams chat with a prompt response. Having worked with you on a complex cancer drug discovery program, I learned a number of top technical and management skills from you. First of all, you are a great coach, a good friend with sharing family memories (Alaska, Hawai trips), and a highly respected leader. I have worked with a number of leaders but your working style was unique and I see you as a role model. You created an atmosphere wherein every team member was motivated to play their role with interest and passion, and not for the sake of completing a task. This really produced astonishing results and was always a win-win for the team. Last but not least, I like to mention that I have never seen you stressed or angry with any activity, greatest life talent any person should have, it was very fortunate working with you. We miss you so much! You are always in our memories

Lee was an amazing and kind collaborator and colleague who I’ve had the pleasure of working with early in my career. Whether in business meetings in Bloomsbury or enjoying a beer after work at the Blenderie near Hopewell, he was always welcoming and warm to everyone, even younger scientists like me. Lee touched so many peoples lives as a colleague, friend and mentor, and he will be missed.

Having an office next door to Lee's for 7 or 8 years meant that I got to know him very well. He was not only a great scientist, leader, mentor, and work colleague to many, but he also became a close friend, running partner and lunch/happy hour buddy. He was also a very good sport, as evidenced by a few photos I shared. He was truly a good guy, and I was lucky enough to spend some time with him and his family on occasion. It is clear he was well loved by them, and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed, and the world will be a lesser place without him. My sincere condolences to all whose lives he touched and shared.

I will never forget the time Lee came to Zymo dressed as Elvis, in the white jumpsuit! He later told me his wife was horrified to hear he bared his chest to the whole company. He told us about his love for fishing trips in Alaska and visiting Hawaii, and many stories about his family. He was a fun and easygoing guy to chat with, and I know he will be greatly missed.

My sincere condolences to Lee's family and friends. I was extremely shocked when reading the email about the sad news. Lee was a fantastic leader and a wonderful mentor. It was always a pleasure working with him. With great expertise and experience, he guided us to successfully tackle many challenges and move many business critical programs forward. He was always approachable and passionate about helping others. He gave me a lot of invaluable suggestions over the years. I really appreciate the opportunities to learn from him. He will be missed.

My condolences to Lee's family. I looked at my Outlook calendar entry of the "1:1 with Lee" for 7/20 and realized that he would never come online again making me feel very sad. Lee has been a supportive mentor since we both worked together at Bloomsbury NJ in 2015. Outside of our conversations about work, Lee loved sharing his joy with Madison.
Last time I spoke with Lee on 6/15, we randomly talked about the topic of "funeral". I shared with Lee that I never attended a funeral in my life. And Lee told me "hope the next one that you'll attend won't be someone you care about". As it was a strange conversation, it became his last conversation with me. He'll be missed.

My condolences to family, friends, and all who were touched by Lee. I am deeply saddened about his untimely passing but am grateful I had the opportunity to know him. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Lee and while he was certainly a smart and thoughtful leader, I will remember him most for his kind heart. He was a great mentor and I admire him for following his passions. His passion for fishing was endearing. I will miss simply chatting with him and having a good laugh.
