Larry and I met at Club Bene in 1969. After 3 shows and in rehearsal for ‘A Funny Thing… I jumped ship to replace in last original tour of Cabaret for its final two months (1970) for Bonnie Walker who then put me into Coco. Larry came, as did I to see him in Two Gentlemen. We were thrilled to be the first two to make it to Broadway. We saw each other almost daily dancing at Luigi’s. Kept in touch on and off Broadway as Fosse dancers and touring over the years. I took time off to have kids and my Wasband ran the Majestic in San Antonio where friends who came in were invited out to the house and we know Laurent loved kids especially my babies. After six years layoff back in NY Tune had workshopped Grand Hotel and needed a cover for Liliane and my dear buddy Karen Akers. Larry was an amazing artist and did this sketch I cherish. When my son was in college he met me to see Larry as the Innkeeper in Les Mis at Wolftrap. He surely was the most agile hysterical dancing Inkeeper we’ve ever seen. Our dinner left my son laughing all the was back to college. Over the years his annual Xmas cards were always unusual fun. The past years we often met at French Roast . Last time I remember him texting he was running late from the doctor. A year or so ago we’d chat on the phone but he was never available to do French Roast? I think he preferred not to go there. He wrote this note in 2007 when I shared I was frightened my very bad cancer had returned.
Alas, I am so sad to lose this good man good friend. Enjoy life, this is not a rehearsal!
God Bless and there’s a kiss Larry,
Love Penny

Uncle Larry came into our lives in 2012 and made such an impression that his passing feels like a gut punch. He brought us into his chosen family without hesitation and had an endless capacity to bring joy to every call, text, dinner date or card (of which we have many). His boundless love, sassy tales of all his adventures (on-stage and off) and the magnitude of his talent are unmatched in anyone I know. He adopted our son, Julian, as his true Uncle and made Jules feel loved, cherished and special. I am certain that he is the center of attention up above and that gives us comfort in this tough time. Love you, Uncle Larry. Always.
