I worked in Portland and OR for a decade+ before moving to the area in '07. A few months later I met Larry while working at REED for a short run. I worked with him again 5+- years later. He said he didn't remember me. We exchanged friendly razz insults over that. By that time we were neighbors as I had moved to Columbia County. (If you live in the county, you are automatically a neighbor, possibly a cousin.) We carpooled to work often and also did so when he became a 28 permit. I was honored to be a guest at his wedding reception. One of the few outside of immediate family. June makes delicious ribs. I remember working with him when he met June. He was ecstatic. He said he thought it was going to last. He was right. Guys will often complain to their friends about their wives. Larry never had anything but praise for his new wife and remained that way as long as I knew him. June made him happy. I have endless stories of us/him. I'll only share the one just before he left on his trek to Spain. We were working with a two other people building decks at REED and someone razzed him saying he wasn't focused. I defended him and blurted out 'That's because he's mentally In Spain.' I still have the pic he sent me from the El Camino on a thumb drive somewhere.
I'm hope I'm worthy to see him in the next place when my time comes. He was a good friend and great person to have known.
