La Vona's obituary

La Vona Laris, daughter of Jim and Elnora Britton, passed away on May 7, 2020 from Glioblastoma. Due to public safety measures during the COVID-19 pandemic, memorial services will be delayed until further notice.

La Vona was born in Colorado City, TX and raised in Long Beach, CA with her five siblings. She attended Jordan High School and Long Beach City College, where she excelled as a scholar and an athlete. She was resourceful, driven, and tackled every challenge (and there were plenty) with absolute grace. La Vona eventually moved to Lakewood, CA where she single-handedly raised her children. She is survived by her five siblings, two sons, and two grandchildren.

Those who knew and loved her will never forget her generosity, resilience, silly sense of humor, and the appreciation she had for family and traditions. Fireworks, sweet tea, Elvis Presley, purple, and quality time with friends and family were just some of her favorite things. La Vona truly was one of a kind, a beautiful soul! She brought her own special magic into the world and loved her people fiercely. When the time is right, we will gather and celebrate her life. She didn't lose her battle, she gained her greatest reward; heavenly healing. For now, let's raise a glass of sweet tea in honor of our lovely La Vona. We love and miss you!
