Kimberly's obituary

Kimberly Jo Rasmussen Nelson passed away January 14, 2022 of cancer in Georgetown, Texas. Kim was born July 17, 1964 in Forest City, Iowa to Rob and Diane Rasmussen.

She graduated from Sandy High School, Sandy, Oregon in 1982. She attended Mendocino College and Temple College earning an Associates of Applied Science Degree in Respiratory Care.

She was a respiratory therapist for over 23 years and worked at Howard Hospital in Willits California, hospitals in Austin, Burnet, Taylor, Temple, St. David’s Georgetown and St. David’s Round Rock Hospital. She loved her job and her many colleagues and patients. She had a very giving heart and spirit. In 2011 she was awarded the Caregiver of the Year award at St. David’s Round Rock. She is being honored with a memorial ceremony in February at St. David’s Round Rock Hospital.

She was united in marriage to Kenneth William Nelson Jr, an electrician, in 1986. To this union one child, Jessica Lynne was born. Kim was extremely proud of her daughter who competed in numerous marathons, and recently qualified for the Boston Marathon.

Kim had a lifelong love of horses, she was a member of the Oregon High School Rodeo team where she won the 1982 Oregon Girls State championship in cutting, qualifying her for the National High School Rodeo Finals in Douglas Wyoming. She went on to compete in the NCHA, ACHA, AQHA, OCHA, PCCHA in California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada, Mississippi and Texas. She cherished her many friends in the cutting horse world and her horse Stylish Louie.

Survivors include, husband, Kenneth, daughter, Jessica, parents, Rob and Diane sister, Kristine and husband Jay and children Kaleb and Kelsey, brother Christian Michael and wife Amy, friends and family in Iowa, California and Florida. Her mother in law, Betty Nelson, numerous Nelson brothers and sisters in-laws and nieces and nephews. Her 26 old cutting horse, Pobre Hickory and dogs Susie and Fred.

No services will be held at this time. The family welcomes photos and stories you may have about Kim. In honor of her memory her family is accepting memorials for a lamp post at the Iowa State Fair, a memorial bench in Corydon Iowa and a youth cow cutting in Texas.
