I can still recall the day my husband and I met Mr. Thacker to tour Clough Pike. It was his second year as principal. He spoke so highly of his staff and said, “I promise we will do our best, and you will be happy here. Lunch is on me in April if you feel otherwise.” That April, he asked, “I don’t need to buy lunch, do I?” This was in 2013.
Throughout the years, he would stop me in the car line to chat. We often talked about cars. He started purchasing cars from Sean and would visit him when he brought them in for service. Over the years, he even sent a few others to buy from Castrucci. He always asked, “How is Sean doing? How’s the car business?”
Fast forward to 2019, when my youngest was in Pre-K at Clough. I started volunteering and somehow ended up becoming PTO President. For four years, we had a monthly meeting, and every time, Mr. Thacker would speak. He always highlighted the accomplishments of his staff and students. He was so proud of them!
He was also always willing to have fun. Once, he agreed to kiss a pig if the students reached their fundraising goal. They did, and he followed through! He was so nervous, but he did it because that’s what the students wanted.
Post-COVID, I began subbing and eventually worked in the office for a couple of years. I am so thankful for my time there. I was able to not only assist in the office but also witness the heart Mr. Thacker had for the school. He was hardly ever in his office, as he was always assisting teachers, helping students who were having a hard time, and staying after school for hours to work with those who needed consistency to improve.
Even on the hardest days, he remained calm, patient, and positive. I’m thankful for the chats we had and for the example he set.
Rest in peace Mr. Thacker you have left a legacy of culture, dedication and greatness at Clough Pike.
We are forever thankful for you and the difference you have made in our lives and our children’s lives.
Love,
The Stevenson Family
