Kenneth's obituary

Kenneth Carl Dover (K.C.) 71, of Evington, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, September 23rd, 2020. He was born April 10th, 1949 in Statesville, North Carolina to William and Mary (Currance) Dover. K.C. became an Eagle Scout at the young age of 13 in South Carolina. He enlisted in the Army right out of high school in 1968 and completed basic training in Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He completed Military Police (MP) training at Fort Gordon, Georgia, leading to a life-long career in law enforcement. As an Army MP, he was stationed in Asmara, Ethiopia for 18 months, as well as Arlington Hall Station in Virginia and Fort Bragg, North Carolina before an early discharge in February, 1972. After the Army, K.C. was a campus police officer for UNC-Charlotte before beginning his work for the state of North Carolina as an Alcohol Law Enforcement Officer. He served as an Assistant Supervisor and Supervisor who was stationed all across the coastal parts of NC before his retirement in Edenton, NC in 1997. After his first retirement, he went on to work for the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), facilitating the acquisition of military surplus with police organizations across the US. After much travel and immeasurable fun doing something he truly loved, he retired yet again in 2010.

Ken is preceded in death by his parents William and Mary. He leaves behind his son, Jeremy Hall (Karen) of Eugene, OR and daughter, Elizabeth Dover Payne (Daniel) of Lynchburg, VA. He also leaves behind two beloved grandchildren, John Cooper and Caroline Harrison Payne, each of whom made him the proudest K-pop around. In addition to his immediate family, he leaves behind siblings, Walter Prescott (Amelia) of Gastonia, NC; Beverly Neisler (Darrell) of Pawnee IL; William Dover (Donna) of St. Augustine FL, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his family, KC was well loved by fellow law enforcement partners, co-workers and dear friends. His absence will be felt far and wide.

Per his adamant request, his ashes will be sprinkled at sea -- the place where he felt most at peace.
