Justin's obituary
Captain Justin C. Failma, 32, of Kapolei, Hawaii, passed away on October 2, 2022.
Justin was born on July 5, 1990 in Lake Forrest, Illinois. He was the youngest son of Ligaya and Clemente “Erol” Failma and brother to two older sisters, Mary Ann Garcia and Christina Bachynskyi. In April 2010, he met the love of his life, Angelica Deuz Failma and in April 2011, they were married in Honolulu, Hawaii. They welcomed their son Matthew Failma in August 2013 and their daughter Emily Failma in September 2016. They completed their family by adopting their cat Chicago.
During his early years, Justin spent his formative years in Hanau, Germany before growing up in Waipahu, Hawaii. He attended Kanoelani Elementary School, Highlands Intermediate School, and Pearl City High School. Justin received his First Communion and Confirmation at Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church in Waipahu, Hawaii.
OCCUPATION
After Justin graduated from Pearl City High School in 2008, he went on to enlist in the United States Marine Corps Delayed Entry Program. He attended Recruit Training abroad MCRD in San Diego, CA and earned the title of Marine in October 2008. Justin was deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2010 and in 2011.
In 2012, Justin transitioned to the Inactive Ready Reserve so he could attend Chaminade University in Honolulu, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminology. Upon graduation, Justin was enrolled in the Marine Corps Platoon Leaders Program and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. In his most recent role, Capt. Failma served as the Company Commander, Airfield Operations Company at Kaneohe Marine Corps Base. His personal decorations include Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Combat Action Ribbon.
PERSONAL INTERESTS
When Justin wasn’t working, you could find him spending time with his family and friends, checking out Yelp for the newest restaurants to try, playing video games with his kids, or working out and staying in shape.
He also dedicated his time as a mentor to fellow Marines who were seeking professional development and as an advocate and champion for those who were experiencing PTSD. We are honored to support the PTSD Foundation of America, who's values and goals directly align to the work Justin dedicated so much of his time to.
