Judd's obituary

Judson Jeffrey Somerville, MD, affectionately known as Judd, of Conroe, Tx passed away on May 27th 2025. He was born on January 1, 1961 in Corpus Christi, Tx to Patricia McMahan Chambers and George Henry Bowman III. In high school, he was adopted by his stepfather, Jack Somerville and they remained close throughout his life.

Judson graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin in 1984, where he was a proud member of the Tejas Club. He then attended UT Medical School and completed his residency at UMASS in Worchester, MA.

It was during this time that Judd was involved in a bicycle accident while training for a triathlon. As a result of this accident, he was paraplegic and wheelchair bound for life.

He was never one to let anything stop him. After recovering from his accident, he completed his residency, became a doctor and opened his own private practice.

The Pain Management Clinic of Laredo, opened its doors in 1996 and helped thousands of patients regain their health and lives over the ensuing years.

Although a medical doctor by training, Judd believed whole-heartedly in the power of natural healing and of vitamin D to restore people's health and quality of life.

His book The Optimal Dose: Restore Your Health With the Power of Vitamin D3, was published in 2018. He was an active member of several online communities and committed his final years to generously sharing his knowledge with anyone who was interested.

If you ever met Judd in person, you'll know that he was the kind of person who never met a stranger. He would light up a room, had the biggest heart and was incredibly generous.

He loved to read books, go fishing and hunting, practice photography and care for his many pets. He collected coins, stamps, art, books and friends.

He believed in education, creating opportunities for young people and supporting the arts.

Judd was always curious and willing to change his beliefs. He loved a good debate or a game of chess, but didn't care who won, it was all part of the experience.

He was a bright light who will not be easily forgotten. He lives on in the hearts and minds of his beloved family and of the many people he helped during his lifetime. We love you Dad.

He is preceded in death by his mother Patricia McMahan Chambers and his adoptive father, Jack Somerville.

He is survived by his daughters Madison Avery Somerville and Hannah Marguerite Asaff (nee Somerville), her husband Andrew Asaff and their children, two granddaughters; by his father, George Bowman III; by his brothers Scott Bowman and Brooks Bowman and their families; by his step father, Carroll Chambers, and by extended family.

A memorial fund has been created in remembrance of Judd. Those wishing to honor his legacy can contribute here. Your donations will serve as a testament to his life and enduring legacy.

A celebration of Judd's life will be held at McCurdy Funeral Home in Lockhart, TX, at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 14. All are welcome.
