My wife ( named Joice) and I got married in 2010 and lived in an apartment across the hallway from Joyce and Jack. As I type my wife is looking at 2 cook books Joyce gave us and are enjoying reading her notes inside. We were always happy to sample her cooking and loved her hummingbird cake and cherry turnovers. I worked in a elementary school at the time and was always happy to vent to her about school. She made an impression during the brief time we knew her and we will never forget her.
We had so many wonderful grandmother memories that we constantly shared with each other. Cole was the first grandchild for both of us. She was a person of great faith that I deeply admired & loved. -Nikki Mitchell

My wedding would not have been the same without her & Jack’s creative efforts. She made dresses, cakes, & he did the photography. They made it so special. She was always such a sweet, loving, & giving lady. I know she will be missed by many.

I'm so sorry for the loss of Nana. She was always like the grandmother I never had. She shared the best educational stories and ideas with me and was a driving force in my ability to graduate high school. She willingly took on watching her grandson Jace while I finished my senior year of high school and even when she didn’t feel good, she did it with a smile. I will miss her contagious laughter and her silly jokes. I’ll miss her recipes and how thoughtful she was. I know Nana will see this message and I hope she knows I will always think of her in my own classroom when I create the same tree she constructed with her own students years ago. When my students and I decorate the tree for each season and holiday, I’ll tell them about nana. Her memory will always live on in my heart. Jace and I will miss you and I send my condolences to the family- especially papí.
