Joy's obituary

Joy Ann Vivian, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully in her home on the morning of July 29, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on June 9, 1943, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Joy lived a life rich in compassion, creativity, and adventure.

A proud and determined single mother, Joy pursued higher education with unwavering dedication, earning her Master’s degree in Social Work. Her greatest professional joy came from working with children, where her warmth and empathy left a lasting impact on countless young lives.

Joy’s love for the world extended beyond her work. She was an avid traveler who lived in Yemen and Japan and explored many corners of the globe. At home, she found peace in her garden and joy in the company of her beloved dog, Maggie, and her cat, affectionately named Baby.

A talented seamstress and crocheter, Joy created beautiful wedding gowns and handmade gifts that will be cherished by family and friends for generations. Her creativity and care were woven into every stitch.

Joy is survived by her loving daughter, Jennifer Fransen; her grandchildren, Brock Fransen and his partner Allie Hyde-Strand, and Brenna Fransen and her partner Siobhan Hwang; and her brother, William Fischer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer Elwood Fischer and Mary Emma (Giffear) Fischer; her sister, Mary Elizabeth Fischer-Palmetary; and her brother-in-law, John Palmetary.

Joy’s legacy is one of strength, kindness, and boundless love. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew her.
