Joe's obituary

Joseph Rawls Jr. age 93 of Hillside, N.J., passed away on March 9th, 2022 after suffering from septic shock. Joseph  was born on September 26, 1928 to Joseph Rawls Sr. and Sarah Johnson in Newark, N.J. After leaving  Central high school. He landed several jobs before enlistng in the U.S. Army in Janurary 1946, serving as a tank mechanic. He served 18mos, and was honorabley discharged on July 1947. After his discharge he had several other jobs before securing emploment at Penn Central Railroad/Conrail. For which he retired in 1988 with 35 yrs of service.  His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was unendingly proud of his two children Sandra and Brian, and granchildren Siobhan, Eric, and Jason. He always tried his best to support them Joe was also a passionate about ancestry and could often be found researching family history on the computer, he was computer savvy.  Anyone who knew Joe knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for. Joseph was predeceased by his mother, father, sister, wife and uncle with whom he was  a care giver to until their deaths. He is survived by his son Brian and wife Robin, daughter Sandra and husband Sharman, grandkids Siobhan Rawls, Eric and Jason Bunts and greatgrands, Philip and Rebecca Bunts, one Aunt Elector Geathers, niece Carol Wood, and a great host of cousins and friends, a special friend and neighbor Beverly Amaker. The family requests that all flowers and notes are sent to Perrys funeral home There will be a funeral service/memorial/celebration of life on March 17th at 10:00 , viewing will be at 9:00. Internment will be at Eastridge Lawn cemetery in Clifton, N.J.
