Johnny's obituary

Mr. Johnny Mack Conner, age 79, of Vidalia, died Thursday, December 3, 2020, at his home after an extended illness. He was a native of Uvalda and was a 1959 graduate of Montgomery County High School. He was a graduate of Georgia Southern University, earning a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in Education, and he earned his Specialist degree from the University of Georgia. He began an extensive thirty-five year career in education and coaching, including Woodbine, head football coach at Fernandina Beach, Florida, Montgomery County High School, and Vidalia High School where he was an assistant coach with Coach Buck Cravey. He was assistant school superintendent and later school superintendent for the Toombs County school system and later taught for the Department of Corrections in Reidsville. He lived in St. Simons Island from 2006 until returning to Vidalia three months ago. He was a member of the Uvalda Baptist Church and Milliken Creek Lodge #302 in Cedar Crossing. He enjoyed fishing and football. He was preceded in death by a son, Hunter Conner; parents, F.J. Conner and Carrie Mae Williams Conner; and a brother, Paul Conner.

Survivors include his wife, Ida Jane Sapp Conner of Vidalia; two sons, Johnny Mack Conner II and wife Patricia of Midville, and Michael Thad Conner and wife Lucretia of Oak Park; one step-son, Jim Turner of Brunswick; two sisters, Dale Conner Clark of Uvalda, and Pansy Conner Corbett of Hawkinsville; four grandchildren, Logan Conner, Matthew Conner, Joseph Conner and Emily Conner; one sister-in-law, Elaine Conner of Glennville; one brother-in-law, Joe Sapp of Lake Hartwell; and several nieces and nephews.

An opportunity to sign the register book and to pay your respects will be on Sunday from 10:00 until 12:30.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 6th, at 2:00 p.m. in the Uvalda City Cemetery with Reverend Adrian Bell officiating.
