John's obituary

"The best moments in life are not the kind many historians record."    -James Lee Burke

While many moments of John's life were tied to historical events, it is the smaller moments with friends, family, his students and colleagues that made his presence so special:  a fishing trip, an ROTC ceremony, a Thanksgiving dinner. John appreciated simple things like a good book, strawberries, and tending to yard work, but also loved to talk about his trips with the Navy around the world and adventures closer to the many places he called home, like Mardi Gras and college football games.

John Edgar Romann, or "Eddie" to his sisters, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2022, as a Super Moon was rising over the Cascade mountains. He leaves behind his wife of nearly 50 years, Joanne Connell Romann, and three children: Courtney Romann Bayer, Leigh Chandler Romann, and Travers Stafford Romann. He is survived by his sisters Dorothy Romann, Regina Romann, and Mary Carolyn Simpson.

In these last couple of decades, Cmdr. Romann put his background in education and 26 years experience in the military, along with his heart and soul, into teaching ROTC at high schools across the country:  Jefferson County in Georgia, Comeaux in Lafayette, Louisiana, all the way to Shelton near Olympia and finally Everett, Washington. He was revered by his students and he loved to encourage them to pursue all of their interests and dreams.

A private burial at sea with family in attendance will take place in Spring of 2023.
