I was his student in Louisville, Ga. He let me use the computer to get my admission decision to Harvard. My condolences to the family. He was amazing, I will always remember Cmdr. John Romann.
I served with john when we were aboard USS Truett.  John was my Chief Engineer.  I remember John being tall and lanky, but very strong physically.  He was a great boss.  Years later Capt Steve Huber ran into John.  John told him about me.  We got to share some laughs as we remembered those old sea stories.  My deepest condolences to his family.
A simple warm memory of a Christmas/birthday. Husbands were home from deployments. John was the life of the celebration! There were delicious foods and beautiful decorations created by Joanne! John mixed drinks and praised his dear wife all evening long!

I had the joy of spending 3 years with John as his subordinate in Mine Group 1 in Seattle. He was the Chief Staff Officer, and I was the Operations Officer. I was astounded by several things John could do. Among them was to eat all day every day and never gain a pound, never run out of metaphors to use in conversations, and his capacity to make every workday fun. We were quasi neighbors in Mukilteo with our daughters both graduating together. Years after leaving the Mine warfare group and retiring from the Navy, I was blessed to connect with John again when he had me visit him at the Everett NJROTC. He was responsible for me to also take that path and teach NJROTC for my second career and with that be able to see John on occasion and speak with him often. I am blessed to have known and worked with him and feel cheated that I don't get to see him again in this world. If I am lucky enough to walk through the Pearly Gates, it will be John at the check in desk!
