Candance,  John was a special person.  He made it even more of a pleasure to come to your house for bridge.  He is now in a better place and he is healed of his illness.  I know that he will be dearly missed.  Take care of yourself.  Hopefully, we can continue bridge in the near future.

When I think of John, I remember how kind he was when we came to your house.  He always offered to park our car or to find us a parking spot.  He did this with a great big smile.

John Payne had a zest for life that infected all he knew.  You could sense his spunk by  by his swagger as he walked his beloved pooch, and by the twinkle in his eye as he tried to sell you a tee shirt or hat.  He was always willing to share a smile and if it was after 5:00, he was generous with offers for glass of wine.  It is heartening to know that he and Candace had a pretty remarkable life.

I sincerely wish I would have had much more time with John. His never ending stories.......no idea if they were fact or fictional.......but very entertaining . Our walks and lunches at Lake Somerset are special moments. Candace, I got to see a small glimpse of your wonderful life with John and your family.

I have many, many wonderful memories of John and his beautiful family.

We have been best friends since high school. We were on the swimming team together in high school and college. We also lifeguarded together at Lake Owasso in  Minnesota.  We were also each other’s “best man” in our respective weddings.

Our family also had many great times at their cabin in the Rockies.  The 4th of July parties were always special!

We will miss John very much in the weeks, months, and years to come, but we know that he is now at peace, and we know that he had a great life!

Dear Candace,

John was so much a part of the heart of Lacebark Lane that with him gone  there will always be a void. He was so wanting to help people with whatever they needed. He would carry your chair for you to the end of the street where we all gathered or he would bring my groceries in the house. Many times he would just stop by because he loved visiting Ed and Ed certainly enjoyed his visits. He always had a smile on his face. Sometimes when he visited he would ask about my diet and I would tell him, “ ok , John it’s time to leave, and he would laugh as would I. “ I am sure that he and Ed have resumed their friendship and are looking down at us in love. I shall miss him, I already do.  My deepest condolences.

Rosita

My dear Candace,

My deepest condolences to you and your family.  I only met your dear husband once, but I am blessed by a warm memory of him and a desire that we would meet again when our travels crossed.  You were my best friend in Bismarck during our grade school years and I have so many happy memories spent with you…I hope we will be able to create another memory together in Delaware or South Carolina.  May you find comfort in your memories of John.

John was the first person to welcome us to our new neighborhood 18 years ago. Since then we enjoyed many evenings with the Payne's and other neighbors. We also had great times with John and Candace at their wonderful cabin. John will be greatly missed and our thoughts go out to Candace and Kim.
  1. John was a good friend and neighbor and we enjoyed our time together.   He is missed and loved.   There are so many memories of John.  He always ate all the tomatoes and never let your glass be empty. He was always giving jackets and tee shirts to Larry!  He always wanted  to help with anything!  He loved to walk Hershey....John was a very unique and kind man.

Candace, my deepest condolences to you and your family.   I’ll always remember how sweet John was when he came to watch you play tennis.   He was your biggest fan.  Fly high John.

Kim, we send you, your Mom and family our sincerest condolences.  May you find peace during this difficult time. With much love, Andrea Stier and family.
I only met John once and it was at Kim‘s doorstep. Many years ago Kim was the leading force for the library for a huge fundraiser based around a fashion show for the American girl doll. Her mom came up to watch Meghan in the show as did her dad. And then her mom was stricken by a horrible case of diverticulitis and they could not go home. It took her a while to recuperate and Thanksgiving arrived. Even though John was invited with Kim and her family to many a celebration he refused to leave his wife. And so a simple meal was provided at home and he stayed with her because he was a terrific caregiver and felt that his place was by his wife’s side. It speaks volumes of him and the care he gave to Kim her brother and his family throughout his life. I am so sorry that his final days were not as he clearly would have wanted them. Alzheimer’s is a terrible crime against our true nature. His family took care of him and I am sure he would have wanted to take care of them. Rest in peace. Blessings.
Dear Kim,so sorry,my sincere condolences ,Nicole Skinner
You will forever be “Mr. Payne” to me. I feel like I grew up in your house as much as I did my own. What a treasure to have known you! You were truly a brilliant businessman. I thought you had the BEST job, selling sportswear to all the big teams and organizations. When you let me call my mom from your car phone, I thought I was so cool! Thank you for being part of my life. Rest easy now. Love always, Deane (aka “What’s her name”). ❤️
