I want to thank everyone for your kind thoughts and messages in this sad time. We have a big void in our family that will never be filled. With covid on the rampage we will hold only a private family memorial but I know that you all will have memories of John and we encourage you to share them with us and others on this website.

 John L. Payne, aged 80, passed away on December 20, 2021 after a battle with dementia. Born in Paris, Illinois on March 31, 1941 to the Reverend John H. Payne and Rosalee Payne, John was the youngest of five children and was raised in a series of small towns in Illinois and Minnesota where his father was a Methodist minister. John graduated from Wilson High School in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1959 and attended Hamlin …
