John and I were good friends, we even worked together, raised our children together and ate out at our favorite restaurant. His birthday and mine are both in June. He is someone who will always be in my heart, and truly missed.
Dear Mr. Mickelson,

Although I don't have any pictures to share, I only have my memories. We'd see you come home every day in the red Mazda pickup truck. I'd like to share some memorable lines and memories from you that didn't seem much back then, but now mean a lot to me when I think of my childhood:

-"Hi Kenny!" No one has ever called me that other than you.
-"Kenny, outta my chair! " It would be playful and with a smile, and you'd play solitaire watching TV coming home from work.
-"Hey, no-peeky shot!" You'd hide beside the house and shoot a basket without looking.
-"Jason, Josh house now!" Classic line when playtime was over.
-"Hey kids, pizza pie!" Dinner time pizza. It seemed like it was your job to call the kids in whenever you got pizza takeout.
-to Heather: "Quit beating a dead horse!" I heard it first from you and realized the meaning!
-"Hey, did you get into Bellarmine! That's good Kenny!" You seemed genuinely happy when I got the notice! I'll never forget hearing that while I was in the huge blue car of yours.
-"Hey, who wants to go to the airshow?"
-I loved watching him open a super large package of toilet paper. He would break it open over his knees and the TP would fly everywhere to our delight.

Thank you for the memories. Rest in peace.

-Ken

About six weeks ago I was in Chicago and borrowed one of my son’s cars and drove down to the St. Louis area to visit Mick in his care facility there.  I want you all to know he was the same fun loving, caring, and delightful person he had always been.  He had memory issues but he remembered all of us and all the old stories. Every member of the staff at the home enjoyed and loved him.  Although the facility had a lot of security (the good kind, insuring wandering patients didn’t get lost) I talked to a floor supervisor and asked if I could break Mick out for a few hours.  No problem, Mick and I left and went to a good bar, had a great lunch and a few beers, and talked about everyone on both the football team and the lax  team.  He remembered all the old stories and expanded on a few.  One of my favorites was Mick and I (We both lived in the San Jose Ca. area) were trying to get back to the academy after summer leave so we went up to Travis AFB to try to catch a hop. After waiting in the lounge for 18 hours with things looking pretty bad we went out on the street and stuck our thumbs out.  We had about $27 between us.  We made 2700 mile trip back to the academy with 1/2 hour to spare before we were class A ed. Next academy pay day Mick mailed $15 to one of the guys that gave us a ride across 3 states, feeding us and lent us $10 to eat the rest of the way. He was a great friend and a wonderful man. I know we all know how lucky we all are to have had the privilege of knowing each other and being life long friends but it is times like this that brings it crashing back on us. My best to all of us, may our memories give us pleasure , and assurance of how much we care for each other.  Hendy. (Neil Henderson)
