Sending your family so much love as you face this heartbreaking loss. I loved running into your whole family trick or treating in costume in Lincoln park, and my husband shared a memory of chatting with John about marathon training at the annual derm barbecue. He seemed to be such a kind, warm person. May your memories of him bring you peace during this time. Love from the Shastry Family.
I am so sorry for your loss and am thinking about you and your children. While I didn’t get to spend a lot of time with Dr. Galvin, I thoroughly enjoyed learning about GVHD and saw his passion for medicine.
John cared so much about those less fortunate than him. We both spent time in Uganda and he talked about wanting to make an impact on the lives of those living there. He was just the greatest guy. He will be so missed.
Our deepest condolences on behalf of the Canadian Medical Team. John was an esteemed member of the Canadian Oncology Medical Affairs Team and truly admired by all of us. He was always willing to join a call, offer sound advice, and even make time to travel to Canada to participate in several scientific events organized by our team.
Always greeting us with a warm smile and a positive outlook on both work and life, it was a genuine pleasure every time we had the privilege to collaborate and interact with him. His presence will be deeply missed, and his contributions will not be forgotten.
I knew John from when he worked in heme-onc/BMT at Northwestern, kept in touch through our interests in CTCL and GVHD, and saw each other at meetings and at our annual departmental BBQ. He was just an amazing individual - knowledgeable, humble, caring, and always collaborative. And as I witnessed over the years - he was also a very supportive husband, dad and friend. He will be greatly missed. Sending much love to the Galvin/Colavincenzo family.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Maria, Lydia, Eloise and Patrick as well as John’s and Maria’s immediate and extended family members. What an eloquent tribute to this extraordinary son, husband, father, professional and friend. We pray that all of you find peace and take great pride in knowing that during his time here, every moment was dedicated to his family, the care of his patients, the support of his colleagues and to causes that positively impacted his community. May he rest in peace.🙏🏻Sending love and prayers.❤️🙏🏻
John I can see your smile now as you propose another brilliant idea to benefit patients from all over the world and all walks of life. It was a privilege to know and work with you, especially to learn from you. I (and Incyte) will miss you terribly. Thinking of your family during this very sad time. Steven Stein (Incyte CMO).
I had the pleasure of meeting John through his wife, Maria. I’ve had the privilege of working alongside Maria at Northwestern Dermatology for the past three years as her nurse. I will never forget the first time I met John—his presence was so warm and full of light. He was incredibly kind and had such an infectious smile. I know he brought that same warmth and compassion to his patients and colleagues in his field of medicine. My deepest love and warmest hugs go out to his family.
I had the good fortune to collaborate with John at Northwestern, on studies trying to understand why patients from low income areas didn’t benefit from transplants to the degree you’d expect. He cared deeply about those patients and finding ways to improve their access and health. John brought so much intellect, creativity, passion, and kindness to this work. I know I’m not alone in saying he inspired me to do more for others and to do it better. John, you had a beautiful mind and a beautiful heart, and I will miss you dearly.
