Background
This scholarship is given in memory of John Farias, by his wife Jamie Farias, who was the Athletic Trainer at Millis (MA) High School from 2006-2021. The scholarship will be awarded to one or more graduating seniors from Millis, depending on funds raised.
John and I always felt that students should be given opportunities to explore career paths outside of traditional college degrees, such as culinary arts programs and skilled trade schools. Often, these paths are overlooked or stigmatized, leading to missed opportunities for successful careers, and shortages in industries where there will always be a demand.
John earned his associates degree in culinary arts from Johnson & Wales University, and also trained and worked in the HVAC field; eventually starting his own successful HVAC business. He had dreams to return to the culinary industry as a caterer & food truck owner after our family's move to Florida in 2021. Sadly, he was not able to realize this dream, but I hope to use this scholarship to help propel a future chef or skilled tradesperson into a path where they can follow theirs.
In the event there are no candidates pursuing culinary arts or skilled trades, consideration will be given to applicants pursuing a career in healthcare(physical or mental), as first responders/civil servants (fire, police, EMS), in military service, or in service to students (school counselor, teacher).
I am so grateful for the amount of support we’ve received in confronting the realities of Johnny’s passing. It means so much to be able to give back in his honor, and with your help, I will be able to see this goal realized. All donations will go solely towards this scholarship fund/account, and I will share the results on this page. Please share the link to this page as you see fit to help me reach my goal.
Thank you so much for reading and for any and all contributions! Contribute
