Erik's obituary
John Erik Zembeck, age 53, of Haverhill, MA passed away on Sunday, April 21st following an acute illness, with his children and his sisters at his bedside. He fought with a brave spirit for 5 months in hospitals, but the illness had advanced too much for his body to overcome. He is now at peace.
Erik was born May 30, 1970, in Smithtown, NY to the late John Allan Zembeck and Linda Muir Zembeck.
He attended primary and middle school in Englewood, CO, graduated high school in 1988 from Trinity High School (Euless, TX), and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management from Arizona State University (Tempe, AZ). He had a successful 26-year career with Raytheon, with his most recent role being Competitive Sourcing Manager.
Erik was known for his friendly, outgoing personality, and his passion for travel, good food & music, and all-things-sports. He began reading and memorizing sports stats from the newspaper in his preschool years and continued that enthusiasm throughout his lifetime by following the detailed metrics and strategies of college and pro sports teams. In particular, he was a devoted fan of the ASU Sun Devils and Arizona Cardinals.
Erik loved to engage his friends, and even those he just met, in spirited discussion on wide-ranging topics. He will be most missed for his genuine curiosity and openness to people of all interests and backgrounds, his eye-twinkling smile, and his wit & cheeky sense of humor.
Erik is preceded in death by his parents Jack and Lyn Zembeck, and is survived by his two children: John Patrick Zembeck and Courtney Zembeck, from his marriage to Laurie Minahan Zembeck. Also mourning his loss are his sisters Susan Looney & Kristin Zembeck-England and their families, as well as many extended family members, friends and colleagues who enjoyed Erik’s company and conversation.
A Celebration of Life service to remember Erik will be held Saturday July 27th, 2024 from 1:00-3:00 at:
The Tap Brewing Company 100 Washington St Haverhill, MA, 01803
All friends and family available to attend are welcome.
