John's obituary

Mr. John W. Carpenter, age 67, of Uvalda, died Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at Memorial Health Meadows Hospital in Vidalia after an extended illness. He was a native of the Gray’s Landing Community, and lived in Toombs and Montgomery Counties all of his life. He was a self-employed truck driver most of his life, and was a former Montgomery County Commissioner and was currently serving on the Uvalda City Council. He was a member of the Smyrna United Methodist Church. John enjoyed fishing, leisurely riding, talking with his many friends, and looking at deer. Preceding him in death are his parents, Wade Thomas Carpenter, Sr. and Minnie Wallace Crosby Carpenter.

His family includes his wife, Betty Brown Carpenter; four children, Dawn Carpenter Duckels and husband Woody, all of Uvalda, John C. Dees III and wife Debbie of Baxley, Karen Dees Anderson and husband Roger of the Petross Community, and Jennifer Kight of Hazlehurst; grandchildren, Victoria Duckels, William Duckels, Savannah Duckels, Blaze Martin, J.C. Dees, Kalem Anderson and wife Treasure, Kelby Anderson, Maci Graham, and Caraline Kight; one great-granddaughter, CindyKate Anderson; one brother, Wade Carpenter, Jr. and wife Sharone of Uvalda; one sister, Janice VanDongen of Orange Park, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be Friday, March 25th, at 11:00 a.m. at Cedar Crossing Baptist Church with Pastor Howard Conine and Ken Garrett officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Crossing Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Cedar Crossing Baptist Church on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.

At John’s request, dress casual for the visitation and funeral.

Pallbearers are William Duckels, Kalem Anderson, J.C. Dees, Mann Denmark, Matt Walker, John Foskey, Ken Garrett, and Howard Morris.

Honorary pallbearers are James Dupree, Ricky Hart, Charles Morgan, Gene Hart, Johnny Burkett, Stacy Adams, and Randall Morris.

John Carpenter
