John Joseph Anker, Jr., age 70, of Glenn Mills Pa., formerly of Wilmington,

Delaware, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2023, after a long battle with a terminal illness.

John was born May1, 1953 and raised in Wilmington, Delaware. He was the son of the late John Joseph Anker, Sr., and Mary Anker. He graduated from Thomas McKean High School in 1971. While there, John enjoyed sports and lettered several times on the varsity football team.

Soon after graduation, John joined the United States Navy as a submariner. John was assigned to the James K. Polk nuclear submarine where he spent his entire enlistment until his honorable discharge on August 8, 1979.

John spent his civilian career as an electronic trouble shooting technician with the erstwhile Eastman Kodak Company.

John was blessed with a quick smile, a kind heart, and a helping hand that endeared him to family and friends. John enjoyed golfing, fishing, reading, exploring local and regional historical landmarks, and taking in a Broadway Musical from time to time with his wife, Meg.

John is survived by his wife of 40 years, Meg Anker; 3 sons, John III, Brian, and Jason; 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; 6 siblings, Daniel, Susan, Thomas, David, Sharon, and Joyce who predeceased him; and numerous nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held in John's honor at 2:00 p.m. on October 19, 2023, at The Veterans' Hospital Chapel, 1400 Blackhorse Hill Road, Bldg. 72, Coatesville, Pa 19320. A reception will follow. John will be laid to rest at the Delaware

Veterans' Memorial Cemetery located in Bear, Delaware at a later date to be announced.
