I met John on my 1st visit to River Glen 15 years ago. I walked in there with my friend Sue and we walked up to the welcome center & there stood John. He had a big smile on his face welcoming all kinds of people. And I come up there to the counter and he asked me, would you like to serve communion? Well, at first I was like, my 1st time here, & Wow, you let women serve communion here? John smiled & said everyone & anyone can serve here. Sue said we can do it together. John was always smiling, willing to serve, & go getter for more servers. Through the years a friendship developed, I ended up on the serving team. I started bible study with his wife Holly, been with her group ever since. John had a serving heart, he loved our Lord, he will be missed, but gosh darn he's walking with Jesus, the ultimate servant, how glorious!!

John and Holly invited me into their home to live for several months while I finished my internship at their church. John told me many times he thought of me as one of his daughters while I was living there. He was incredibly kind. Both Holly and John showed me generous hospitality for the length of time that I was living there and I've always been grateful for them letting me into their home and lives.

John certainly left a legacy for being a servant and loving the Lord.
He was always volunteering and we enjoyed spending time with him on our mission trip.
What a comfort knowing John is with our Heavenly Father.
Praying for you especially the next few days as you grieve his loss.
Sending you our love,
Wally and Lori

John stood to my left in water aerobics... from Golds Gym to Xperience. Such a sweet man. He will be missed by many!

John was truly a friend to everyone he met. Our first memory of John was when Tim and I bowled on the St. Mark's bowling league. I don't remember how John bowled, but that he would always say hi and have a conversation with almost everyone. Working with John on the usher/ welcome team at River Glen was always fun. He had a good sense of humor and was so good at recruiting help whenever we needed it (which was most Sundays). He was never afraid to ask and would always come back to the ushering check in station with new volunteers. He was very responsible and dependable and a really nice guy. Tim and I always considered John to be a good friend. We miss him.

John always stood on my right in aqua zumba and we would talk before class. It was a little more of a challenge as his disease progressed and after his teeth extraction, but we still tried and he still smiled while he talked. Several years ago, I ran into him at the airport when he was leaving for Florida to meet his new twin grandbabies and my husband and I were off to a wedding in Jacksonville. We got a chuckle as he and my husband were wearing the exact same cotton shirt. Your smile will be missed, but I know that you are finally at peace.

We met John at St Marks Lutheran Church and he would always greet us with a big smile. He loved to talk about working at WE Energies; two of Dale’s brothers, Bob and Whitey worked with John in Fitter Gas Operations. We also saw John at River Glen Christian Church and knowing we ushered in the past asked us to usher again. May special memories you have all made together help you through this difficult time. With love from Dale and Jeanne Kramp

John was the most loyal, conscientious and eager serve captain on the team. He could be counted on 100% of the time. He came early and stayed late. He was the first person that I would ask if I was in a pinch because he would always say yes to helping if he could. He was one of the most dependable people I have ever known. In addition, he was so very kind. He had a soft heart and was nice to people who weren't always nice to him. Also, I will miss those WE energies cookie books :) So glad that John is not suffering anymore. LBD is an awful disease.
