Jerry's obituary
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jerry S. Johnson, a beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, as well as a respected member of our community, who left us on October 24, 2024. Jerry was known for his unwavering dedication to the community through his love of developing and building, and for his generous spirit that touched the lives of many.
Jerry was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on June 8, 1940. Jerry’s father was Chief of Police in Ventnor City, where he grew up as a lifeguard on the local beaches. He went on to join the United States Coast Guard and then went on to play college football at Trenton State and Clemson before starting a family and moving to Florida to pursue building opportunities. Jerry was a proud Christian who recalls being saved at eleven years old and continued to grow in his faith throughout his long and full life. Jerry has always been a true leader, known for his ability to inspire others and make a meaningful impact within any community he was a part of, most recently Venetian Bay.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, he cherished being “Pops” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and being on the water in one of his boats that he named “After You”. His family feels comforted knowing that Jerry and his son, Jerry Johnson Jr., have been reunited in the presence of the Lord. He is also proceeded in death by his brother Robert, and he will be dearly missed by his siblings Eileen, Pat and Lew, the mother of his children, Angela, daughter, Jill, his granddaughters, Jennifer (Daniel) and Alexis and four great-grandchildren, Casen, Mila, Sophia and Natalie, along with countless friends and associates who will forever remember his kindness and generosity.
To honor his legacy, the family invites those who knew and loved him to pay tribute by participating in Operation Christmas Child through Samaritan’s Purse. Please fill a shoebox with supplies and gifts for children who would otherwise go without. The donations will be graciously accepted on Wednesday, November 6, at 6 pm at Jerry’s second home, the Venetian Bay Clubhouse. This gesture reflects Jerry’s belief in giving back and supporting those in need.
As we remember Jerry, let us celebrate his remarkable contributions to our lives and our community, he will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
