Jerry's obituary
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jerome "Jerry" Modjeski, a beloved figure who left us on June 13, 2025. Born on January 1, 1935, Jerry's journey on earth spanned over nine decades, during which he touched many lives and left an indelible impact. He taught at Irving Elementary in Hammond, Indiana for over thirty years. He was a semi-finalist for 1984 Indiana Teacher of the Year and was awarded Teacher of the Year by the City of Hammond.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sarah Modjeski; children: Gina (Brian) Kahne, Jason Modjeski, John (Rakhee) Modjeski, Mary (Doug) Youngwith, and Megan (Scott) Adams; 13 grandchildren; and brother, Michael Modjeski. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Lillian, and brother, Eugene.
We take comfort in knowing that his legacy of love, wisdom, and strength will continue to inspire us all. As we remember Jerry, let us celebrate the beautiful life he led and the countless ways he made our world a better place. May his soul rest in peace.
