Jeanne's obituary
On January 20, 2024 Jeanne DaLana Willis unexpectedly departed this life, which she often called “the most amazing journey.” She was born April 10, 1947 in Brooklyn, NY, the first child of Reverend Evernard and Edwina Divers Williams. At age 3 she became the eldest child as the family welcomed baby brother Maurice. During this tender age, Jeanne displayed an extraordinary talent for piano, beginning a remarkable journey filled with musical and artistic creativity.
Rooted in spirituality and musical talent, Jeanne’s early life was a tapestry of movement throughout various New York communities and eventually to Cleveland, Ohio where her educational path began at Ramah Junior Academy. After a family- move to Huntsville, Alabama, Jeanne’s education continued at Oakwood College Academy and culminated at Oakwood College where she studied Elementary Education. In addition to piano, Jeanne’s journey was adorned with exceptional sewing skills and many proficiencies that enhanced her roles as wife to the late Fred D. Willis, Jr. and mother to Nevea, Christopher, Paul and Katrina, whom they raised in Dayton, Ohio.
Jeanne’s gifted hands blessed many through her music and sewing, while her administrative and secretarial talents led to success in various industries through the late 1970s in Buffalo, NY, into the 1980s in Dayton, Ohio and then, from the 1990s until her passing, in San Diego, California. There, she devoted over 30 years to General Dynamics NASSCO, leaving a lasting legacy of diligence and dedication.
Preceded in death by her parents and brother; Jeanne is cherished by her sons, Christopher (Jacqueline) and Paul (Lisa); and daughters, Nevea Davis and Katrina; seven grandchildren (Gabrielle, Alexandra (Steven), Eliot, Naomi, Michael, Hannah, and Avalon), a host of relatives, close friends and cherished colleagues.
Jeanne D. Willis embodied classiness, style, and grace. Her smile and laughter, quiet confidence and peaceful nature, were all reflections of her deep love for her family, her commitment to professionalism, and her passion for piano and artistic expression. To know Jeanne, is to know of her special affinity for butterflies. The marvel of their vibrant colors and serene yet whimsical dance—floating and fluttering in the essence of their transformative freedom; mirrors how Jeanne navigated her life’s journey. Like the splendor of a butterfly, Jeanne’s journey is a testament to the beauty of a life well-lived and one so deeply loved. So, journey on, dear Jeanne. Journey on!
