Jason Christopher Draughon, 39, of Carrboro, North Carolina, passed away on June 28, 2025. Born on March 22, 1986, in Raleigh, NC, Jason spent his early childhood in North Carolina before relocating with his family to Groton, Connecticut, in 1991. He returned to his home state in 2005, where he continued to build a life filled with creativity, passion, and deep-rooted connections. A 2004 graduate of Robert E. Fitch Senior High School, Jason was known for his vibrant spirit, unshakable loyalty, and the deep love he had for his family, music, and community.

Jason worked primarily in formal wear sales, where his impeccable sense of style and personable nature made him a favorite among clients and coworkers alike. Outside of work, he was deeply immersed in sneaker culture—buying, selling, and trading rare pairs with the eye of a true connoisseur. A lifelong fan of both the New York Yankees and the Philadelphia Eagles, Jason’s sports loyalty ran deep, proudly repping pinstripes in the summer and midnight green every fall. His true passion, however, was music. Raised on everything from Luther Vandross and ABBA with his mother Lauren to James Brown, Parliament-Funkadelic, and Earth, Wind & Fire with his father Reggan, Jason developed a profound appreciation for good music. But hip hop was where he found refuge, his inspiration, and his voice.

From the moment he first heard the boom bap of A Tribe Called Quest to the gritty lyricism of The Wu-Tang Clan, the vivid storytelling of The Notorious B.I.G., and the smooth hustle of Jay-Z, Jason was captivated. Above all, it was Black Thought and The Roots—introduced to him by his Philadelphia-native father—that left the deepest mark. That love turned into a calling, as Jason picked up the pen and launched a rap career that produced heartfelt, passion-driven projects and unforgettable performances. He helped shape the North Carolina hip hop community with his words, work ethic, and unwavering support for fellow artists. His bond with his younger brother Evan grew even stronger through their musical collaborations, a testament to Jason’s generous spirit and love of family.

Jason is survived by his mother, Lauren Draughon; his brother, Evan Draughon; his sister-in-law, Rebecca Draughon; his grandparents, Macy Draughon and John Smith; and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and devoted friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Reggan Draughon; his grandmother, Cela Smith; and his grandfather, Erwin “James” Draughon.

Jason’s legacy lives on in the music he made, the people he loved, and the countless lives he touched with his warmth, loyalty, and authenticity. He will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always celebrated.
