Janice's obituary

Janice Weeden Brownell, 75, of Eagle River, WI, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2019 at Saint Vincent Hospital in Erie, PA while surrounded by those who loved her. She was born June 26, 1944 in Orange, New Jersey, a daughter of the late Donald and Leona Koch Weeden. She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter Angel Brownell Horn.

Janice is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Robert Brownell of Eagle River, WI, one daughter, Bonnie Horn (Andrew) of Lakeville, MN, two sons, Jeffrey Brownell (Michelle) of Deerfield, IL and Donald Brownell of Oak Creek, WI, and one sister Donna Natole (Robert) of Williamsburg, VA. Janice is also survived by 8 grandchildren Alicia Mady (Zachary), Kaitlyn Kostelecky (Cameron), Robert Horn (Natalie), Jessica, Kimberly, Zak, Nicole, and Sydney Brownell and a great-grandson Daniel Mady. Janice leaves behind a large extended family and countless friends.

During their marriage, Robert and Janice and their children moved around the country 19 times. Janice became an expert packer and unpacker according to her family. She made many lifelong friends throughout the country.

Janice worked as a receptionist at Air Products & Chemicals, Inc. in Allentown, PA and at Nestle’s Test Kitchen in White Plains, NY. Robert loved the samples she would bring home from her Nestle’s job. She was also an upholsterer and drapery seamstress.

Janice was a wonderful homemaker. She was an extremely talented knitter, quilter, stitcher, beader, and crocheter. There was actually no crafting project that Janice could not master. Janice was a part of several groups that enjoyed the same things. She was in several clubs which included the Northwoods Knitters and Purlers, a quilting guild, an embroidery guild, and The Cloverland Needleworks group. Janice looked forward to her annual quilt and knitting retreats too. Janice loved books of all types and getting together with her book clubs was one of her favorite pastimes. She was also a wonderful cook. The family always looked forward to Thanksgiving when Janice would outdo herself.

Another hobby that Janice enjoyed was playing the piano. Music was a passion that she inherited from her father, and she greatly enjoyed her piano lessons.

Janice’s love of dachshunds was undeniable as her home was never without one or two scampering about. She loved anything dachshund which could be seen from the many calendars, stationery and pictures in her home.

Janice also loved to travel. She enjoyed visiting family and friends all over the country with her husband in their RV. Janice and Robert also took wonderful trips to Hawaii and Europe. Her favorite trips were those that included her family.

One of Janice’s favorite things to do was to sit on her back porch overlooking the lake with a glass of wine while reading a book or enjoying all the wildlife. She loved her home and took great joy in sharing its beauty with others.

Janice was always giving of her time and talents to others. She has touched the hearts of so many and she will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 31, at 12 p.m. at Eagle River Baptist Church in Eagle River, WI.
